Mahogany - Connectivity!

Posted over 5 years ago
It's been sooo long since the last Mahogany record, which was very very beautiful and fell in with broadcast and stereolab soundworld but with a dreamer edge. The singer has that high pitched voice that remind me of the early lush records, or some of the other dream-pop bands of the early 90s. This record continues with the dream pop elements as well as Reich-isms (see "Mantisa"'s choral setting and music for 18 musicians pulses) that they shared with stereolab but also sees some expansion into some more rock areas with a the rhythm section taking a center stage. Some of the straighter stuff in the early part of the album could be compared to "Tender buttons" as they integrate a straighter new wave feel to the whole wispy-psychedelic thing. Anyways the album is good start to finish. i like the more rock stuff so my faves are:The View from the People WallSuperVitesse (like the parts with guy singing more)One plus one equals three or moreDomino Ladder Beat (sounds like pornography era Cure jamming on here come the warm jets!)My bed is my castle
