Jameson poses an interesting question about an image Conor Oberst uses on his latest Bright Eyes album, Cassadaga. In the song "If the Brakeman Turns My Way" Conor assumes that we all know who "the Brakeman" is. But I find myself, like Jameson found himself, wondering, "Who is this Brakeman, and why is he turning my way?"
I myself like to think of the Brakeman like a dirty old bum. He’s comin’ up to me, and I’m ‘bout to sock him, cause, you know, he’s a dirty old bum, but then I say, “Wait a minute, there’s something… I don’t know, special about this guy.â€
Or sometimes I like to think of the Brakeman with like giant eagles wings and singin’ lead vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd with like an Angel Band, and I’m in the front row, and I’m hammered drunk…
Or maybe sometimes, I like to think of the Brakeman as wearin’ a Tuxedo T-shirt, ‘cause it says, like, “I want to be formal, but I’m here to party too.†I like to party, so I like my Jesus to party.
Or maybe he looks like this:

All I know is that if, and when, he turns my way, I would like to know who I'm looking for.
How do you like to picture The Brakeman?
