We’ve already started week 7 of The Program, and again, I’ve not had time to update until Tuesday night. And again, because bendblock and I have been very busy, we're only choosing one new album to focus on this week:Lucinda Williams: WestWondering what The Program is all about? 1. mktackabery says guess that means you got your cd Matt? cool. I have yet to listen to one track, so looking forward to starting on this tomorrow. I am still a fan of "Sweet Old World," an older one of hers. Have always loved her live the best. Hope this one plays as advertised!

  2. bendblock says Check out this gallery of photographs by Annie Leibovitz. It features the cover art for Lucinda's album, not to mention some amazing portraiture of some of America's greatest musicians (not to mention Pete Seeger's banjo and it's ominously hopeful inscription). Lucinda should be proud. I've never heard anyone since Gillian Welch whose voice can sound so beautiful and so tired at the same time. I can tell her mom died. "Fancy Funerals" is a great song but what is the last word of the last line?

  3. mktackabery says Wow, love that. I have seen so many of those pictures (I must confess, Vanity Fair is one of my guilty pleasures. It's like the Enquirer for people who want to be rich) and I just adore her work. Last word of the last line of "funerals" - isn't she saying, "satisfy your wishes, justify the cost?"

  4. matt cleveland says "Fancy Funeral" is the song I kept finding myself going back to on this album. The last verse of this song is one of the most gorgeous, truthful verses I've ever heard. So don't buy a fancy funeral. It's not worth it in the end. Goodbyes can still be beutiful without the money you'll spend. No amount of riches can bring back what you've lost. To satisfy your wishes, you'll never justify the cost. If you've ever lost someone as close as one of your parents, I'm sure you know exactly what Lucinda's saying here.
