  1. matt cleveland says I thought this was a strong effort from the Crows. I think it's quickly becoming my second favorite of their albums. It's working hard to beat out This Desert Life, which came out my freshman year of college and still holds a special place. Not sure if it will win out, for sentimental reasons. I remember watching them rock "Hanginaround" on Conan and asking, "When did Rock n Roll stop being that?" I guess it didn't. But I think this album is more of a rock album than anything they've ever done. They kick it off with the ranting rock of "1492" follow it up with the all out rocking "Hanging Tree" and the fun slow rocker "Los Angeles" and sunny day driving songs like "Sundays" and the guitar laden "Insignificant" and "Cowboys" is the heaviest crunching guitar song since they've put out since Recovering The Satellites. After that the album takes a dramatic shift as the production and instrumentation move to a slower, more introspective, country-tinged rock feel that is back to form with their debut album, August And Everything After. Which brings me back to the title, Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings; it's fitting with the celebratory air of the first half of the album and the more contemplative atmosphere closing it out. A great Counting Crows album from beginning to end. Thumbs up.
