I disagree with all critics on this one. This is Weller's best solo album, in my opinion. It's okay if it is softer in spots; there's room for this in this world, and people are holding Weller to musical expectations based on prior contributions, I think. He's got a harder edge at times, but he does dreamy well, too.

This is an album I loved when it came out in the early 90s. I was inspired to listen to Paul Weller's solo material by an English friend who had been really into and gave me first introduction to The Style Council and The Jam (and the latter is one of my favorite bands).This album might feel more dated/be harder for a modern listener not familiar with the Jam to get into. Spotty, but fun

This Javelin album is spotty, but a good time overall. My favorite song on it is probably the hip-hop referential Oh! Centra, which has a lot of spunk and is a great summer dancin' tune.
