i believe he's lying on a KING size bed of american major/indie scene. tho his musical history was like a long winding road. when he was a teenager, formed a punk/powerpop band called The Bats. they released a 7inch called "popgun" and a full album called "how pop can you get?" from connecticut's indie label gustav records around '82. they sound like cheap trick plays the ELO songs. amazing songwriting, it would blow ben folds' mind away. and it's my all time favourite powerpop album with no doubt. then he has worked at the studio for a while, then formed the short lived band The World's Fair. i think a few songs on his solo album had been written for this band. and his another short lived band The Grays were awesome and could be a bridge between newer bands around LA. then as you guys know he could be a wing man for a bunch of great talented musicians like Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, Jellyfish........etc and wrote a few great scores for movies as well. i believe he would be like those great composers/arrangers/producers in the 70's like Jimmy Webb, Nick De Caro and Eumir Deodato! Love Jon Brion and have all of his releases, but I never heard of The World's Fair. Did they put out any LPs or CDs?

unfortunately they haven't released anything ever. but jon has recorded a few demos for this project. i think a few of them were re-recorded for his solo album.

i tried to make it to his show at largo during my visit in LA, tho he hasn't been playing there for a while at that time.... :( he has dwight twilly or emitt rhodes in his mind and cheap trick or plimsouls in his blood! awesomeness!!

I have a bootleg of Jon Brion demos that feature maybe 20 unreleased tracks. I wonder if you have the same and which songs might've been intended for World's Fair. Tracks of note include: Pray For Rain Happy Birthday Was It All For Nothing You Know Who Impossibility Is You I Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way Don't Make Me Fall In Love With You See You Again Sometime Every Kind Of Memory I'll Never Forgive Myself I'm Through With You All The While I'll Take You Anyday Beating Of My Heart A Bit Like You Breakdown Loand Anything's Possible Not Ready Yet Heart Of Dysfunction Everything Makes You Sad The Bottom Of This Easily Fooled It's All Coming Back To Me I'm Not Going Anywhere We Got A Good Lie Going Crutches
