I thought it was time I started promoting music from New Zealand. Not much of our music makes it to the mainstream in North America or Europe but we have some kick ass artists that really should be much more famous than they are.

You may have heard of these guys already but I thought I’d start things off with one of my favs, The Veils.

The Veils are based in London but have their roots in NZ. They have two albums, The Runway Found, released in 2004 and Nux Vomica, released in 2006.

Both albums are awesome (in my humble opinion) but quite different in mood. The music is emotional and passionate. Their latest album could almost be described as frightening at times with lead singer Finn Andrews belting out brooding lyrics with his intense voice. For some reason their latest album reminds me a lot of The Arcade Fires latest album. But that maybe just me.

Anyways, check em out.. Here is the first single released from their latest album.

And here is in my opinion the best track on the new album.

I recently discovered them; I really enjoy his voice. I think you're right about the AF similarity. Thanks :)

Yesterday I had my first experience of what it takes to get tickets to one of the major summer festivals here in the UK. Patience, frustration, cursing and accepting that disappointment is highly likely are all requirements.

As a backup in the highly likely case that we won't get tickets to Glastonbury we thought we'd go to www.tinthepark.com up in Scotland. Thankfully I was teaming up with a friend in the ticket grab. He got through, savior! Quite a few friends were not so lucky. Only four out of eight of us ended up with tickets.

It was apparently the fastest sellout ever for the event in 40 minutes. I find buying tickets to major events on the net mind blowingly frustrating. It's a battle against technology! Browsers crashing, processing errors, time outs, server overloads, bad net connections etc etc! Then to be told there are no tickets left after swearing at your computer for an hour... errrr!!

To make matters worse for frustrated friends who missed out we thought we have a look on ebay to see if any touts were listing yet... there were already 200 listings for 2 day camping tickets only 10 minutes after the sellout was announced. All being sold for a minimum 80% markup on the face value. Are these people taking the piss!!??

Those f%$kwits are only buying tickets to make a quick buck create their own market by somehow knowing the system better than the average punter and being able to get multiple tickets. This obviously creates scarcity for genuine music fans whom are left with nothing. I hate those lowlife scum!

Admittedly it is very easy money. If I didn't have morals I'd probably join the game and I guess that’s what gets on my nerve about not just touts but many things people these days. Easy money seems to render peoples seemingly weak morals, to be non-existent.

How can we get rid of touts? More rules and regulations when buying tickets? Fines? Making it a criminal offence? Castration? As a wider comment I guess this is just a minor example of why society is becoming more and more regulated. Because it seems an ever increasing number of people no longer know what morals are, so these morals have to be enforced upon them and unfortunately the rest of us with an ever increasing set of rules and regulations on what we can and can’t do.

There I've had my rant! I feel much better now... ;)

Castration...you're strict! Hehe I can only imagine how hard it is to purchase tickets that way. But yes, something must be done legal wise, to get rid of them, and make the purchasing concert tickets concept a free of frustration and stress one.

Totally agree. People really take the piss. I wanted tickets for the Cribs at King Tuts (March) but they sold out super quick and i didn't get one, i have seen 40 tickets so far on ebay all selling for double the price. Wankers!

Tell your mates that if they haven't got a ticket it isn't too hard to buy tickets outside. I have missed out getting them on release day for three years but have been every year by buying them outside. I've never paid more than face value either. Saying that though, i only live in Perth so it wouldn't be a real disaster if I didn't get one, only a miserable 15 minute drive home.

I think ebay should make a rule that tickets have to be sold at face value with buy it now. Then the honest punters that couldn't go for some reason aren't penalised.

I have ranted long and hard about this so many times. My friends just roll their eyes anymore. It really does make it next to impossible for a true fan to get a ticket. It's the venues and organizers that need to fight this. The ticket sellers don't care where the money goes to. Ebay could help also by refusing to allow tickets to be sold for more than face value.

I'm on a mission to find the coolest music sites on the net. I want to know of anything where there is a good music community, or where it's easy to find out about new artists or just plain cool sites for whatever reason... as long as it's music related!

If anyone has a suggestion please share with all! My list so far includes...

- mog.com (of course)! - www.last.fm - www.myspace.com - www.fabchannel.com - www.pandora.com - musicovery.com

What am I missing out on here??
