For this week's BROW let's have a listen to part of The Beatles warm up session from January 31, 1969, just before laying down the necessary takes of "Two Of Us" for the Let It Be film and album. While in a skiffle mood, the band breaks into a medley of songs from the past by Lonnie Donegan, Carl Perkins and even Johnny Cash, to name a few. Check it all out, right here.
This week, the VOW has a look at "Real Love". Most Beatles fans are well aware of the John Lennon demo Yoko Ono gave to Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr in 1994, and the magic that was breathed into it for use on the Beatles Anthology project. I'm going to go into a little more detail about it. "It's ree-al love, it's reeeeee..al", and it's right here.
Paul McCartney will perform live at Capitol Studios in Hollwood tomorrow and the event will be streamed on Itunes free of charge. The details about this and more on his new Kisses On The Bottom CD (including track listing and important buyer information on the differences between two deluxe versions of the CD) are covered here.
This time around I'm having a look at an often overlooked gem from John Lennon & Yoko Ono's Double Fantasy album - "Every Man Has A Woman Who Loves Him". The original version features Yoko on lead vocals with backing vocals by John. I will give details on other versions of this song (and where to find them) including a John-only vocals version and even a duet that has John's vocals brought for
On February 14-18, 1972, John Lennon and Yoko Ono did a one week co-host stint on US television's Mike Douglas Show. John and Yoko are joined onstage by the Elephants Memory Band to perform a song from John's most recent Imagine album called "It's So Hard". More details and a clip of the performance await you here.
With Ringo Starr's new album Ringo 2012 out tomorrow, I thought it would be a good week to scrounge up a Ringo rarity. This a follow-up to an earlier article I made, back in April 2011, concerning the BBE disc (Best Buy Exclusive) that accompanied the first few copies of Ringo's 1998 Vertical Man CD. The BBE disc contained three tracks from the 'Vertical Man' sessions that were not included on
On February 19, 1965, The Beatles did an afternoon recording session to record John Lennon's new song, "You're Going To Lose That Girl". This was the last of the songs recorded for the Help! film. This week's VOW covers session info about the recording of the song and reviews the clip of the finished product directly from the 1965 movie. Have a look and listen, right here.
I'm hoping most of those reading this have had the opportunity to check out Martin Scorsese's recent biographical documentary George Harrison: Living In The Material World by now. Part two actually begins with a 1968 acoustic demo of George's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Since this demo is only presented as a 45 second edit containing one verse, and not available on any official releases any
Back on November 25th, I made a post alerting everyone of Ringo's upcoming new album Ringo 2012. Since we are coming up on the release date in 10 more days, I thought it a good time to give everyone a sneak preview. Check out the new album's opening track and get more info on the latest from our favorite legendary drummer, right here.
The promo clip for Paul McCartney's "Penny Lane" was shot at a few locations on the 5th and 7th of February, 1967, in preparation for the upcoming mid-February single release. Although there were a few sequences shot in Liverpool's Penny Lane (the subject of the song), The Beatles never traveled there to make the video. Find out where they did go, along with plenty of additional details about
