.......I went through a huge Neil Young phase. I jumped in at "Rust Never Sleeps & worked my way backwards as I kept up with his current work. I stopped in the mid-to-late 90's. His guitar shredding capabilities cannot be denied. His style is a thrilling dangerous mix of sweet & sour notes served with sharp shards of dissonance & chaos. & somehow the cub-footed rhythms of Crazy Horse becomes the perfect background for Neil's flights of frenzy. Having said all that, & after a couple dozen shows......I don't know.......it seems he has less & less to say......or has chosen to preach........I haven't bought a Neil cd since Life In War (or whatever)
Living with War was interesting and apparently quite heartfelt. The more country-flavored stuff (like Prairie Wind or Old Ways) is even quite appealing to me in it's own way. The old stuff w/CH though, has a special place in my heart and, of course, the Dylan cover on Bobfest of "Just Like Tom Thumb Blues" by Neil just blows me away!
