The Beatles Rarity of the Week

Posted over 2 years ago

TGIF everyone. Featured here is an early take of Helter Skelter recorded on July 18, 1968 which was a couple months before the version heard on the White Album. This recording appeared on The Beatles Anthology 3 CD set but it was edited down to 4 and a half minutes there. Presented here is the full 12 minute account of Helter Skelter Take 2. For more details about this track see the CD booklet included with Beatles Anthology 3. Also to read about more Beatles rarities or if you would like to read about a few and suggest one for me to post next week then visit my web site at www.MyBeatlesCollection.com.

  2. marknavl says I Lost My Little Girl...yeah! One of my favorite moments in the Get Back sessions. I think this was John in sort of a half-parody of this song which was supposedly the first one Paul ever wrote. Herhair didn't always girl.....I love it.

  3. deadmandeadman says Hey, I have an old vinyl bootleg and one of the tracks is Lennon singing Her Majesty ".........But I gotta get a belly full of rum Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl some day I'm gonna make her cum" Can you post that one?

  4. marknavl says That's so cool. I'd love to hear that. I have 4 versions of Her Majesty including the official one. All of them are sung by Paul. 2 are from the Get Back sessions (and one of those is Paul on piano instead of acoustic guitar) and then there is the same version from Abbey Road but with the final guitar note intact (as it's clipped off the Abbey Road version) and finally the Abbey Road version. If you can tell me more about the bootleg you have maybe I can find one for myself.

  5. marknavl says I have a boot of John singing "Do you want to hold a penis?" (instead of Do You Wanna Know A Secret)...but yeah he did that a lot.

  9. wassonii says Thanks very much for the input on Jeremy. I had a lengthy discussion about this track (HS) last year on my blog as I've been sitting on a copy for a few years now under the impression, too, that this was part of that 23 minute take. However, i had it kindly pointed out to me that this is an outfake, looped into itself. Great take, whatever the case.

  10. wassonii says Ah yes, I really should check that to which I refer prior to making note. I mean well, I promise:) What I should have written is that what I have is something that sounds very similar to what you have posted. At the time that I got it, I was under the impression it was the first half of the 27 minute version. (not 23 as I so erroneously wrote) This was prior to reading up on some Lewisohn knowledge and learning of Track 2, tho I was still under the impression it was one of two parts. This cat that has a blog and some knowledge, "Doctor Mooney's 115th Dream":http://doctormooney.blogspot.com/ and I had some "discourse":http://wassonii.blogspot.com/2007/06/kinfauns.html. He listened to what I had, picked it apart and there is an apparent loop in it. I'll have to refer to it and this one to disseminate further, just some uncanny similarities, is all. Hope all is well!
