Where do you find you're music? I get that question a lot. Playing music out of my open kitchen for the many dozens of people who come to feast with me three times a day is one of the greatest joys of my job (truly), and a day doesn't go by without an inquiry or two. MOG has been a good resource recently. And it was a mogger who re-introduced me to Radio David Byrne ... the listening section of David Byrnes home page. Here you can listen to a three hour playlist that is created monthly with a particular theme in mind, and a written introduction to each. Pretty cool :) This months list is made up of Northern European artists, and has been especially rewarding for me just as a matter of timing- I've been in the mood to hear this kind of stuff lately so I've listened to this thing like a dozen times this month (probably more, lol).Of the twelve or so artists that are featured I've only ever heard of two of them, and I already love them both- Bjork, and Sigur Ros. Good stuff. Bjork can do no wrong in my book, it's all good, all the time. Rare. So I started writing down the others that I liked as they were playing and before I knew it I had picked them all. How often does that happen? Not often. Among them was Ane Brun. Oh my. Loved her instantly. Instantly! What a charmer! Next few days were spent watching all the videos on You Tube, chatting her up to friends, etc ... nice work Ane:) Under Byen, Mi & L'au, and Tape were other standouts for me. There's a good vibe going on with this list, and because the month is coming to an end- I'm squeezing every last listen out of it while I can- and writing about it in the process. Sweet. The monthly selections are diverse. So be prepared. When I first found this sight it was titled 'All Missy' (which was all Missy Elliot, all month. lol) Afro-Cuban Classics was another, and another recent fav was the Gospel mix prepared around Christmas. I listened to that one a lot too (again with the timing thing ... hmmm ... David's really good at that:) Link to Radio David Byrne .... Be Quick! The Month Is Ending Fast!
