WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Drum Beats and Gorillaz

Posted about 1 year ago
I found out a little known fact about Gorillaz song, 19/2000. It gets its drum beat from Sly and The Family Stone's "Sing A Simple Song" and this tidbit of info on my favorite band comes from the fact that 19/2000 was played in the new "American Godzilla" movie, Cloverfield. The original song was used, no remixes. I give a bow and a curtsy to them for being such a great band and to Sly for keeping the funk real all these years. I am a huge fan of both bands, being i'm old enough to remember Sly in his hayday. He is a musical genious and I have loved his music since the 60's.

  1. deadmandeadman says Sly, The enigmatic, sadly wasted genius. **There's A Riot Goin' On** is a tour de force, A Masterpiece. No an artist before or since documented the war that rages as fame and fortune gives way to hangers-on and sycophants. Drugs & the emptiness that comes with the false gods of acclaim and adulation take their toll, and Sly lays it all right out there. With music as dark as a junkie's room percolating a rhythm, Sly's keyboard slashes, jabs and stabs and retreats into the darkness. His vocals range from the barely coherent almost imperceptible mumble to anguished angry wails. But it was a dead-end. By nature it couldn't be puplicated. **Fresh** was an interesting coda, but the writing was on the subway walls and tenement halls and ole Sly has never really escaped the whirlpool, but he's never been sucked completely under, so maybe.........?

  2. Cody B says As an album statement Riot is the masterpiece, but for a distillation of dance grooves and pointy lyrics Fresh is pretty damn good, close to or perhaps eclipsing Stand. Of course, it's like choosing between fine wines with the 3 vs. the rest o' the muscatel out there.
