Guilty pleasure: Kelis

Posted over 3 years ago
It's a little embarrassing to admit that I listen to Kelis (yes, being a music snob comes with some baggage), but dammit, I really dig (mog?) *Till The Wheels Fall Off*. It's a great feel-good song, even if it is on the pop, mainstream side (hence the guilty pleasure).Though I've only listened to it a few times so far, I can tell it's going to be in semi-heavy rotation. Seems like a perfect summer song, alas a few months too late. The only other Kelis song that I can claim any affinity for while still maintaining a shred of self-respect is *Sugar Honey Iced Tea*. Yes, there's the Alvin-and-the-Chipmunks-esque vocal that puts the cheese factor off the chart but it's infectiously fun. Can't always be hardcore...

  1. champy says Kelis is not a guilty pleasure (at least not in my book). I love Bossy and who could forget the timeless Milkshake. Kelis will soon be a classic (Oh my MOG I can't believe I really just said that).

  2. I'm a Believer says I am feeling her style I am a NAS fan and I will admit to looving Bossy but after awhile her voice gets annoying as hell...they do a lot of Protools work on her voice and she still sounds like can't sing...but what pop artists can these days?

  3. ciaran says Kelis rules - or at least she used to. Really not feeling her new track Bossy, but Millionaire was a killer track, and our mutual friend Gilles Peterson even put one of her early tunes on one of his compilations - and you can't argue with GP!

  4. ciaran says Hey - you like Gilles right? You've got to check this guy out - Mixed Moods - like GP with a German accent - awesome tune selection.....
