Coachella Report - Day 2, Part 2 - Arcade Fire thinks you're a polite young thing...and more...
8p - we got to arcade fire late, but just in time to hear "alexander" - they have transitioned nicely from the outdoor stage to the main stage - the whole band fills up the stage - they are good performers - they have a pretty big crowd since everyone is eating up this new album - the new stuff is good - i don't have the new album yet and since i don't know it, i lay down flat on the grass to just listen...overhead are 15 or so spotlights all trained on the same place, making a pinnacle in the sky - someone nearby is burning sage - everyone is happy...everyone is dancing when they pull out the "Funeral" tracks...that's one unattractive band though...i wonder what Fran would think?Late in the show, Win Butler thanks us all for our good manners (??) "Manners are the cornerstone of a strong and prosperous society" - Canadians are weird...850p - yeees - blonde redhead - i've been waiting for this all day - they were only 10 minutes late due to minor but expected problems w. the outdoor stage - i missed them recently in seattle & heard it was a kickass show, so i'm glad to be here now - we're so lucky, gosh!there's a girl hula-hooping to the music up front and she's really really good at it - it's a smallish crowd, much smaller than i expected - they sound really Lush-y to me and patrick agrees...this band has brought out all the performers - there's a girl on stilts dancing through the crowd, some really good dancers, hula-hoop girl and people twirling those light-up ball thingies - the whole field is bathed in yellow light - it's a super fine vibe...930p - LCD Soundsystem in the Sahara tent - we took a lot of pictures of art on the field on the way to the Sahara - LCD is playing a live set, not a DJ set - the whole crowd is dancing - i decide i have a dehydration headache but aspirin from first aid cost 2 damn dollars...there are lots of big roars from the crowd, everyone is loving this - it fucking rocks and we're only sitting in the back, but they still really worked us over...the only weird thing was they chose a super mellow ballad to close the set - that kind of sucked...1010p - the DJ who warmed up for the Rapture was really really good - lots of nice chunky bass-y beats - i used the time wisely by getting a little lesson in techno from patrick...the Rapture opens up w. "get yourself together" and follows that w. "get yourself into it" - there's a lot of good bass, a live saxophonist - it's totally packed back here...we caught a few minutes of the Black Keys but they didn't really grab me - patrick wanted to check out The Good, The Bad & The Queen but on our way over we noticed Tiesto and headed that direction - have you ever seen 20 thousand people dance at once? it's amazing...we got some little movies/photos and danced around a bit, then hit the merch tent and headed out - i got a black coachella hoodie with a guitar pick zipper pull, a coachella bag and a sticker pack...for 95 bucks - while waiting for my friends, a guy came up to me and said "guess what? ONE MORE DAY!!!" - i think everyone feels that way...thanks for reading...
