connect festival, day 3 *OR* memoir of an infected foot

Posted over 4 years ago
wake up and have a chat w. the mama's (and miss meriel!) about the day ahead and try to figure out what to do - leave? put my foot up all day? i decide to wait it out...oh, and apparently all the cheering the night before was from a group of people camped out on the side of a hill - they were watching people try to make their way down through the deep deep mud - if someone fell, they cheered; if someone made it safely, they booed - i heard way more cheering than booing!have lunch of burgers, sausage & cabbage w. the mama's and then go for a nap......wake up just before the mama's are set to leave and decide to check out my foot before they go, just in case...well, the fucker has doubled in size and turned black with red lines shooting all off of it, and my foot is so badly swollen i can't get it back into my boot! fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck...FUCK!back to the hospital tent, in the ambulance AGAIN - this time the doctors look very concerned and have hushed conversations away from me, which makes me very nervous...i have a fever and the infection has now spread all over my calf - they decide to shoot antibiotics into me via IV and that's the end of the festival for me - that SUCKS - i'm not too upset about missing bjork or lcd soundsystem since i saw them both in april, but i'm bummed that i can't see seasick steve, the polyphonic spree, aqualung, MIA or tilly and the wall...*SIGH*have to wait a couple of hours before they can free up an ambulance to take me and this other girl with a broken foot back up to the bus - however once i got there, who did i see? the harley davidson mama's! i'm telling you guys, these women were really like my guardian angels this whole weekend - they fed me, kept me company, made me laugh, gave me cigarettes, food and alcohol and even carried my bags for me when my foot got really bad - so it was great to be able to ride back to glasgow with them...i give away the last of my cd's and stickers on the bus - manage to get to the glasgow airport holiday inn and take a shower and watch a bunch of tv - the room starts to spin after a bit - have been feverish and woozy all day...gonna have to go to the hospital in london, i guess - UGH...really i just want to sleep...so that's the end of the festival journal - basically the remaining travel part went like this:bus from festival to glasgow - 2 hrsbus to glasgow airport - 30 minswait in glasgow airport - 5 hoursflight to london - 1 hourpack stuff in london, sleep for 5 hrslondon - tube strike! have to get cab to heathrow express - 2 hoursflight from london - toronto - 6 hrslayover - toronto - 4 hrsflight fr toronto - seattle - 4 hoursall this within 2 days and with what turned out to be a really gnarly staph infection - it's over a week later and i'm still on antibiotics and still treating this oozy, gross-as-fuck thing on my ankle! but all in all, the trip as a whole was fantastic as hell and i met awesome people and really enjoyed myself - but i feel like i missed out on a lot at the festival too, so i want to go back and do it all over again (minus the foot part)!

  1. Groon says Sounds like you had a great time! (except for the foot) It's been years since I've been to any sort of festival. We don't really get them in the southeast, and with three young kids my wife isn't really keen on me leaving her for days on end. Guess I'll have to live vicariously on MOG.
