on Wed. Brand New played a great show at Lupos. they have been having a good tour run, it seems like they are selling out alot of their venues, which was the case tonight, it was just swamped with affected teenage kids. when my friend and i showed up 3 hours early, the line was down washington street and under well under the drinking age. my friend however, is in touch with the pheonix, so it felt kind of cool to be let in through the front door in front of everybody, but it wasn't anything new for emo kids, the grass is always greener on the other side. the grass was most green in places. this was mad early, was doing their soundcheck, but brand new had already done theirs and was back at their hotel, so it was a missed oppurtunity to meet them. After that, we left to go to grab some food and plenty of beer to insulate from the growing chill wind that was forming in anticipation of the coming emotional party.

Brand New went on at about 930, and we had been told by this really great girl Paula, who was our contact letting us in too be ready for a long show, which we were. They started out with a killer one-two punch with Tautou right into Sic Transit Gloria. This pretty much set everyone in Lupos on fire. From there, they played mostly from Deja Entendu for about 40mins, and then began another 40mins or so focusing on the new album, which i have not listened to, but has some cool songs on it. Alot of the songs, especially the new ones have good quiet loud dynamics, meandering along with quiet strumming and picking, only to explode into the whole band thrashing around and screaming. Jessie played alittle too much acoustic by himself, for me individually. I really commend them for playing what seemed like a really comprehensive set, it seemed like they had been planning this show for a long time, or atleast, it seemed well thought-out. the end was typical Brand New, with friends and crew coming out with various drums and cymbals, just beating the crap out of that. the energy was good for that one.
