MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Greetings MOG, it has been a long time since I've been here, and frankly I have missed you terribly. I chaulk it up to being a)very busy for the past couple of months b)extremely neurotic about being busy and distracted for the past couple of months and c) having to suffer the death of my music stockpile in toto. I thought for this reintroductory post, just to reaquaint myself with the controls, I would use a bullet format to relay the following music and sonic related happenings to bring us up to date.

1]I caught a New Deal show last night and am pleased to say that it was a tie for best New Deal show I have seen since the very first show that I saw 3 years ago. The crowd was in a joyous mood and the band played to our strengths. It was so good that it is this show that was the final nudge in bringing me out of my imposed MOG haitus. I was afriad of being rusty, and this show helped me over come my fears. The only bad thing was that some Masshole took my blue hoodie which I don't think was very cool, but hey, it'll come back around

2]Since 2002 I have been selling my CDs and storing all of my music digitally on a 80GB harddrive. Great idea right, save all the space from my computer, and I can take my whole music collecting with me wherever I am be. Sure, I was damn nervous about something destroying said harddrive, like an errant liquid spill, or say, my roomate borrowing it to transfer files on his computer. Of course, to make room, he carelessly deleted all of my music that is not backed up. I printed out my itunes list and it comes to something like 15 pages of a list of my livelyhood. Needless to say, music died for me this April. I can't even muster the drive to dig for new music after this, I just want to listen to Hot Snakes, but I can't. Now I wish I had backed some of it up. Atleast the Hot Snakes

3] For The Mathematics disbanded. For those not in the know, these guys from Montreal were the next hope for people who liked to listen to bands like At the Drive-In, and other Drive Like Jehu type spin offs. But they were really really good, just not many people had heard of them. And now, after being teased at the prospect of new material, they take it away. Thanks guys for the 2 short but astounding CDs you bestowed on us willing or lucky enough to search you out.

4]I listened to Portishead's Third and was not disappointed, HA! someone owes me a dollar Mortamore!

5] I went to San Deigo a few weeks ago and saw Tribal Seeds. Very standard roots reggae band, but they do it with a great style and the front man/ singer is very very good at what he does. Not very well known either (for the life of me, I could not find a CD of this local band in any shop I was in, and I didn't have any cash at the show to buy the CD there... weird) Also, if you are reading this, Sammy Dreads: stop stressing!

6]I got my tickets for Mission of Burma's Boston show, which is 1 of 4 where they will be playing either Signals or Vs. in its entirety. 2 shows in Boston and 2 shows in NYC. I am going to the Vs. show because I love that album so fekking much. And to close this post in their words, this is how I escaped my certain fate, peace MOG, glad to be back with you

Damn. I assume your roommate's body will one day surface in a shallow, unmarked grave? Because if that had been my hard drive deleted, I would have made him acquainted with an aluminum baseball bat.

Just sayin'. Glad you're back, though.

Not to my knowledge, but I'm notorious for betting on surreal odds when drunk. ;)
