A missing chromosome walks

Here is a B-side from Deloused in the Comatorium era Mars Volta. Everyone interested is probably already aware of this one. The lyrics were recycled into the later-released Day of the Baphomets from Amputechture. But the song is completely its own. Follows a savage arrangement with a surprisingly cool and mellow coda for these guys. The Volta take the stage at the Orpheum this Sunday night, I may or may not be there, but fingers crossed tickets will find me. I really want to see there show now that they are several more albums deep and hear how Thomas Pridgen is working out. Have not seen them since 2005, so it has been awhile.

I may or may not be at that show myself  as well.  First and foremost, I have a conference downtown (Prudential Center) starting that morning.  So depending upon how long that goes I may be able to go.  Secondly, I HATE the Orpheum.  The place is just old and unless you are in the orchestra section it sound horrible.  The acoustics in general are terrible, and with the volume at which TMV plays, I don't know if it will be enjoyable.  I have yet to see TMV with Pridgen on the kit either, but from what I have seen on video he has made smooth transition Theodore left.

The last time I saw them was at Avalon during the De-Loused tour, so I would be interested as well.  That was an amazing show, and I would hate to be disappointed this time around, especially because of a crappy venue.  We'll see.  If I decide to get tickets and go I'll let you know and maybe we can meet up.

i love the Deloused-era if only because it's closer to the At the Drive-In sound which i'm a little nostalg for. Mars Volta are a band that fall on and off my radar. I had to look up what Pridgen was all about. I found this fact worth mentioning: "Thomas was also the recipient of a 4 year scholarship to Berklee College of Music in 1999 at the age of 15; he was youngest musician to ever receive this scholarship." Maybe you'll run into him touring the rest of the Mars Volta around the Berklee area :)

    Funny you should mention Berklee.....

My friend is the drummer in a local band, Elephant House, and he went to Berklee and knows Pridgen.  Before it was announced that Pridgen would join TMV, he somehow found out and sent me a bunch of youtube links showing Pridgen at his finest.  Now, my friend is an amazing drummer, and he said Pridgen absolutely blows him out of the water.  And, he also said that in class at Berklee, Pridgen would often put the instructors to shame.  Which I think is funny.

Ahh so dope! That's what I love about Boston, everyone is somehow connected. So cool that your friend got to see him one-up his professors, hahaa. Dude sounds like he's mega talented. I'm much more interested to check 'em out at a live show now.

Dude, I've wanted to see those guys for a while now (although I'm not a big fan of their latest stuff).  Hope you can make it.  Hope it kicks much ass.

good point, he may very well be out around berklee then! i couldn't believe it when i heard that he was their new drummer. a drum teacher i had brought in a tape of him when he was just this little kid at some sort of big drum clinic and he just floors everyone there with this amazing solo. he has a really innate mega!talent. theodore was all about these driving rythmns and pulsing beats, and the difference i hear with pridgen is much more technical and changing timeing. interesting stuff for certain.

brittany, a show is absolutely warranted from them. very good albums, but they are a touring band first most. atleast, last time I was in tranced for a good 2hours. i saw them at avalon as well but during the tour for frances.

would be awesome to meet for this, but i don't have my hopes up for tickets. the orpheum is a lousy place to see a band, i don't even want to get started on its flaws. built to spill is playing there next week(?), maybe their acoustics will work with the venue better than mars volta?
