Hey Hey! Brakes! Brakes! Brakes!

I discovered this band thanks to InSound's free mp3 of the week. Brakes are a UK band featuring members of The Electric Soft Parade, British Sea Power, Mockin' Bird Studio and The Tenderfoot. Hard to get more super-indie than that huh? They've played with Belle & Sebastian, The Editors and The Killers. I like they're sound a lot. And now I want to get my hands on this sold out 7". Why is everything sold out the second before I happen across it? I blame the promoters, because clearly I am coming in behind the curve more often than not. This song on the A-side is about a guy who survives his ship sinking, swims to shore, and then tells about it in the bar, or pub, depending upon which side of the ocean you reside. Also dependant on which side of the ocean you are, Brakes, as they are known in the UK, are known as BrakesBrakesBrakes in the US, due to some other band here who call themselves The Brakes. Confused? They've got a new full length arriving April 20th. It's the weekend, so this discovery is amplifying my infectious good mood.
