WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

Head Automatica @ Great Scott 1.10.09

Posted 10 months ago

And other concert review that took place in snowy conditions. I swear the snow brings out the intensity and the creativity. I swear it.

This time it was Head Automatica in the very small Great Scott in Allston. No warm up, Radio 4 who was with them apparently crashed their van on the way to Boston in NJ, Daryl relayed the story about how they passed the van overturned on the highway. He said that they were ok though. The band was doing its last of three small shows in prep for a new album early spring. They played Philly and NYC before heading up here for the last one. I actually caught their last show in Boston which was before Graduation Day dropped, way back in 2006. So it has been awhile for them, and it was amazingly special to see such a great band at such a small place. There is literally no back stage area at all, and the bar holds about 350 people all packed in tight. I was way up front and it was magical. They kicked off with the set with the song I had been shouting all afternoon, Yellow Bullet. Crowd favorite Beating Heart Baby was sang mostly by the rabid crowd. Couple of new songs sounded awesome, very dubby too which is my type of HA. Afterwords, Rachel and I let Daryl know how ace his band is and snagged a quick if blurry photo op. Cheerio!

and they also had these sweet hand-made t-shirts for the short tour.

4/209!

Ha, Daryl's face is priceless in the photo of the two of you w/ him. The new stuff is more dub-by? Nice, I'm very intrigued...is there a date set for the album?

hey britt! it sounded very dub-infused, lots of fat bass lines. eitherway, these new ones were recieved very well by the crowd, they certainly sound great. i think it is planned for summer'09

Makes me think of Terminal Cheesecake a bit, I guess it's dub influence.
