Oh my god, amazing doesn’t even begin to describe the Big Day Out, it was by far one of the best days of my life!!! Mum had to work before we could go so we didn’t end up arriving until about 2pm, which was ok, but it did mean that we missed the Butterfly Effect and the start of Evermore, two bands I was rather keen to see. Once we got there though, it was music all day, we caught the end of Evermore, and I must say that they sound great live. After that we headed off to see The Sleepy Jackson, now let me interject here by saying that I am in no way a big fan of The Sleepy Jackson, that’s not to say that I don’t enjoy there music I just wouldn’t call myself a huge fan, but I must say that they are absolutely fabulous live and would encourage everyone to see them. There lead singer also did one of the most unique things I have seen at a concert (I am in no way a seasoned expert, but I am well on my way), he had a Polaroid camera and took photos of the crowd and then threw them to them, strange I know but maybe they just couldn’t afford new drum sticks. After that we headed over to see Eskimo Joe, who were again great live, the lead singer is very energetic and they played all the hits from there latest album as well as an old favourite “From The Sea”. Next was the John Butler Trio, John Butler is a lyrically genius and the boys were great live. After that we were at the business end of the day, the band that inspired me to buy my ticket. The Killers, who I am a huge fan of, did a great set including all there hits from there two albums as well as a couple of album track which i just happened to know all the lyrics to. They were great and i will definitely see them when they do a headlining tour. Next were Jet, who I was happy to see but weren’t really a huge thing for me, and again they did a fabulous job, a little to much screaming if you ask me though. After that was the main band that my mum and I wanted to see, The Muse, and I must say without and bias, that they were by far the best band there performance wise. If you haven’t heard any of their stuff do yourself a favour and go out and discover true musical genius. There lead singer, is not only a phenomenal singer but also a phenomenal guitarist and piano player. Between the three members they were the loudest most exciting band there, they tore the roof down. Apart from the music they also had a light show to match, which was out of this world. This show has definitely cemented the boys in my fav bands list, not to mention one of the greatest to see live. After that astounding performance was the Violent Femmes, the last performance of the night, and they did a great job. With no new album out the boys just played all there hits from the past including, Blister in The Sun, Day After Day and Gone Daddy Gone. I must they that the Violent Femmes without a doubt had the best crowd sing along, the whole crowd sung not only the chorus but the verse of Blister in the Sun to the band. I think that would be the biggest rush to here thousands of people singing your song back to you. Well this is a very quick recap but the day was an absolute blast and would recommend it to everyone. BIG DAY OUT ‘07 ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
