I went to see the Meatbats play last Monday at Live House enn, a tiny basement club in Sendai. The members are Chad Smith (drums), Kevin Chown (bass), Ed Roth (keyboards) and Jeff Kollman (guitar). They played maybe all the songs off their new album which is due for release soon, hopefully. Their sound is a fusion of funk, jazz, blues and rock, reminiscent of 70s Detroit music but still fresh and original.Each member had opportunity to do some ripping solos but as a unit, they're also incredibly tight considering they've only played together as the Meatbats for a short time and have only just started touring. The standout track for me was 'Night Sweats'; a sweet drum into.They'll be touring more in the near future so check out their MySpace page for tour dates and album release info.
