America (the band)

Posted about 5 years ago
I was watching CNN this morning and saw a commercial for Here and Now. Man, I've totally forgotten about America! Even with a stun gun to my temple I couldn't have told you who sang "Sister Golden Hair" but yet, I hear a clip and I'm thinking, wow, that's one of my favorite songs! I grew up with Ventura Highway, Horse With No Name, etc. but I guess the music data base in my brain replaced America with more (at the time) relevent bands like Supertramp, Pink Floyd, etc....If there are any Canucks out there you'll have to shoot this down, but something about America reminds me of Bachman Turner Overdrive.

  1. lemontwist says America is a pretty chill band, I actually saw them last February at a venue nearby and they were pretty good considering they'd been touring for over 30 years.

  2. mutterimieli says I've always enjoyed this band to the heckling of all my friends and even my family. To sweet AJ I didn't know they were still touring.

  3. lemontwist says Apparently they've been touring pretty much every year since they first started, with most of the original people. Amazing, huh?

  5. angeldawn says Early 70s, I was riding my 2-speed around Salina, KS and America was all over the radio. Horse With No Name and Sister Golden Hair reminds me of the scavanger hunts the radio station would have using songs as clues to locations where you'd find the more clues, eventually leading to a final prize. Never found a clue but the songs will stick with me forever. Thanks for the trip back to a favorite time.

  6. lookoutkitty says It's so funny what can trigger a memory.... I like hte idea of organizing a scavenger hunt by song title. When my boss busts me spending time on here, i can now officially scream "marketing ideas" "contest ideas"!!
