I heard two amazing new songs on the radio.. from two artists that I had assumed totally fell off... Usher and Deborah Cox.
Lets keep it real. Deborah Cox hasnt made anything tight in seven years and has gone down the path of putting dance beats behind all her music and doing Gay Pride Parades and events in Europe..But I aint hatin' go get that loot girl.. "give me the loot give me the loot.. Im a Bad Boy..."
Usher on the other hand, got dooped into marriage by his stylist ( who previously had four boys, is a man-beast and ten years his senior) and while I liked "Love in this Club.." it is embarassing all the same that I know the words... I do like "Move this Mountain"..... quietly.
"Somethin Special" is just plain great soul music. Usher doesnt even sound like "cheez-ball Usher" but sounds like a damn good singer.. and I love that it begins with just simple blues guitar and melts into bass and drums.. no synth, no piano just plain ol soul music. "My Man!" I cant stop singing it and am thinking I will cover it when I finally get around to doing another show ( guitar and keyes needed asap for blues/soul band in the BAY- holler)
I was slightly teary, slightly tipsy, riding in a cab home the other day, and the fog was giving the impression of rain. Couldnt have set it up any better... I just needed mascara slowly sliding down my face and a bus ticket in tow.....Ok anyway, was riding in the cab, thinking about this loser-ass cat that I had thought was my summer love when this song came on the radio. The lyrics were great... super slow, very 1990's classic R&B but I couldnt put my finger on who it was.
I knew it wasn't Mariah, or Monica, or Brandy ( though Brandy is making a pathetic attempt at a come back...that's a whole other review) and for sure it had too much maturity to be a recent idiot. I wouldnt get out of the cab until I found out who sang it.. and of all people it was Miss Deborah Cox.
"Did you Ever Love Me?" is her first single off the new album and I absolutley love it. Love the slow horn line... love the lyrics and I love the fab-o Miss Deborah and glad she is coming out of the closet and into our homes once again!!

I was glad to read what I did. In all honesty I thought this was the title of a new R. Kelly song
I'll have to give the Usher track a listen. I only gave Here I Stand one run-through, and nothing really stood out to me.
I have the tendency to get maybe too creative on my titles, Sorry for the confusion... I was referring to Miss Deborah :)
