Finally writing about seeing My Bloody Valentine in San Francisco 9/30/08(my birthday & my gift to myself). The concert was at The Concourse At San Francisco Design Center which is south of Market Street. I hadn't been to a show there before, let alone knew the venue existed. So I didn't know much about the place. Probably a good thing too, since I didn't want to color my concert experience with what others thought of it. So, ALOT has been said about MBV's U.S.... MORE
So I was rooting around what music I have to find a track for my first post. I had a something specific in mind, and it was going to be a truly epic.
As it turns out, I found this BossTones track. And suddenly I want to skate again despite the very real probablilty of bodily harm.
So screw it, I'll try and be clever next time.
BTW, this is a cover. Bonus points for the original.
I'm a total pushover for South African female singing groups, especially the old-timers like the Dark City Sisters and the Skylarks. This is a gem, from the late Fifties. It reminds me of a round. Miriam's voice is terrific, with just the right breezy, jazzy feel, but it's the interweaving of her line with the other singers' that gives this cut its abundant magic. Now I'm going to shut up, as long as you promise to click on the button....
In the summertime here, the Denver Botanic Gardens hosts a concert series ... a stage is set in the middle of the beautiful landscape at the bottom of a four-sided sloping hill, where people gather with blankets and bottles of wine, crackers and cheese, and full picnic baskets. Artists perform in a in-the-round style format, and there's usually an intimate feel to the concerts. On one evening six or seven years ago my friends and I were there to see K.D. Lang -- who was ... I was recently asked the question " What is truth?". Wow, this could be a most interesting and deeply philisophical explanation if I could be so bold. What can one say about truth other than it is what one believes to be fact. There in lies the difference, it is what we know to be a fact. People in everyday life just "believe" things to be true without any proof. For example, many of the worlds most popular religions which in my opinion are just a bunch of fairy tales made... MORE
No kidding I just got off the phone with a very old dear friend of mine. My guess is we haven't talked to each other for about .. well close to 4 years. Last time I saw him he was smoking a cigarette on my porch when I came home from work one day. Talk about shock. In that situation you get put on the spot to recount your life thus far since last time you met. "How you doing?" was the question you can't prepare for. What do you say? It was awkward but not 'not' enjoyab... MORE
"a week without you,

two weeks without you,
and i still haven't gotten over you yet." since it is the first day of my vacation, my first vacation since 2005, i thought maybe it would be fun to resurrect those "raised on mtv" posts that dale and i used to do. here is a little "background" of what the original idea was about: i was thinking about doing a personal music reflective project that would explore my raised on mtv adolescence, and the songs an... It's been a year and five days since Radiohead released In Rainbows as a name-your-own-price download. In that year the band and its publishing company Warner Chappell, which oversaw the novel release, have kept mum about its success. But today we are getting a little closer to finding out how much cha-ching Radiohead banked from the whole gimmick, while more details will be revealed on the topic during the You Are in Control conference today and tomorrow (October 15th ... Guy Ritchie needs an award. The man put up with Madonna for 7.5 years. Today confirmation comes that the entertainment couple (he a film director, she the queen of pop) are officially getting a divorce. The two wed in December 2000 after being introduced through Sting and his wife Trudie Styler in 1999, and have two children together: Rocco, 8, and David Banda, 3, who was adopted from Malawi two years ago. Lourdes, 12, hails from Madonna's previous courtship with her pe... MORE
Anytime I mention Tom Waits to my contemporaries, I usually get a shoulder shrug, face scrunch "I can only take him in small doses" response. Some told me Bob Dylan on his worse day sounds better. I guess it is just something you have to "get" Heck, I don't need to change the world, I just need to make mine better and with Mr. waits taking up residence, I believe it is. This version is taken from "Glitter And Doom: Tom Waits In Concert at Atlanta’s Fox Theater" - Two Ho... MORE
Last night, new Senegalese talent Carlou D was playing his London debut at Momo. In a packed basement room next door to where David Bowie posed for the cover of Ziggy Stardust he sinuously weaved aural magic. A veteran of the Dakar hip-hop group Positive Black Soul, he now embraces the Baay Fall spiritual sect and weaves his tales of struggle and positivity from a very traditional place.
Introduced by Youssou N’Dour he played both solo and with a group, laying out int... MORE

Somehow and at some point I came upon Land Of Talk’s EP Applause Cheer Boo Hiss a ways back and cranked it louder than I should have. The soulful fury of lead singer Elizabeth Powell struck one of those so-called chords and I had to respond with extra volume. I’ll admit I was a bit [...]
