Focus of the Week: Bat For Lashes

Bat For Lashes. Amazing.
From Brighton England. The singer, Natasha Khan, has a beautiful voice and the songs are well composed. Not your average songs, either, which I always admire.

I wish I could describe them better, but I definitely do not have the best music vocab.
Here's my favorite song by them

Weepies

The Weepies have had two songs in commercials. One is in an Old Navy ad and the other is in a JC Penney ad. I love finding music through commercials.

This duo is a couple, and I believe they live in Cali with their child. They both sing. The woman's voice is amazing and unique. The man's is nice as well, I actually really love the tracks that he sings.

I really like this group, all the songs I know by them are good and I wouldn't doubt their cds are a good buy. This track is one of my favs so far...

The Arcade Fire

The Arcade Fire was actually at Sasquatch when I went this past June, but I didn't pay attention to their performance at all. Partly because I had not heard them before, partly because I was falling asleep since it was midnight almost, and partly because I was freezing my ass off.
Since then, I have given them a fair listen, and I really like their music. I always enjoy bands with multiple singers, so they satisfy that. I really like the songs that are sung by the girl. Here's one for you...

paper planes - the lyrics are amusing and the clips of guns is like a tribute to hip hop, like she's making fun of it. this song attracts me, though im not completely sure why..

20 dollar - between her own verses, mia sings the chorus from the pixies' where is my mind. the song has a nostalgia to it that i admire, and a beat that transfixes me.

M.I.A.

So I am going to M.I.A.'s concert when she comes to Portland and I am so ecstatic it's not even funny.
So when I bought a ticket to her show I made sure to buy her new album - Kala. At first listen, I wasn't sure if I liked it or not because though it is similar to Arular, it is still different. But, I found myself listening to the album constantly. My three favorite tracks are Bamboo Banga, 20 Dollar, and paper planes. I also adore the track that was produced by timbaland - come around i think it's called.
bamboo banga is in this post, the other two songs i mentioned will be in posts of their own.

Bamboo banga - fun and peppy. i like the road runner noises that are added.

I enjoy Snow Patrol, though they are not one of my favorite artists. When I was downloading some of their music, I came upon a song that I haven't heard before but I really enjoyed it. Here it is.

Missing Interpol

So Interpol is coming to Portland in about 2 days and I wanted to go but the tickets were a little too expensive for a band that I just enjoy and don't absolutely love to death, ya know? But then I got an email from a local radio station that I am a member of and they had tickets for 10 fucking dollars for a limited time but of course I didn't get the email until after that limited time had ended.
I am so sad and frustrated. But. I'll be okay. I have seen them live before, they were pretty damn good, and I will survive. To help relieve my annoyance, here is a song.

holy shit i love this cd
bought it yesterday
and it is pretty sweet. the opening track, good morning, is really good and there's a track with chris martin of coldplay that i thoroughly enjoy and whether it is because i love coldplay and kanye or just because its rad, i do not know.
and then of course there are his singles can't tell me nothing and stronger that rock the house
i would post a song, but unfortunately, since i uploaded the cd onto my comp MOG won't let me upload it onto MOG!
sorry! but hey go buy kanye's cd for the awesome graphics on the packaging and for the mini poster. oh yes and for the music and supporting artists. :)

Kanye!!!

So I love Kanye West. Love him.
And some people love him too. And some people think he's bullshit. I swear it goes one way or the other when I bring him up.
BUT. When I visited Vancouver BC they had a hip hop show on their music tv channel and I saw the Stronger video and I was soooo mesmerized by the song. oh man. loveeed it. Partly I love it because I love daft punk, and they wrote "harder better faster stronger," the track played in the back of this song. And of course, that is what makes Kanye's new song Stronger. It's amazing, and it seems to be the anthem to my friends and I lately. Whenever we are together we play it at least 2x.
Here is Kanye's new killer track that I will probably overplay sooner or later, sadly. :D

Inara

Inara George is an artist I just discovered. She had a single track on a birthday mix that was bestowed upon me last January, and I liked her one song, but honestly didn't give it enough attention. Later I downloaded some other tracks by her, and they are all amazing. Actually, almost all of them took at least 2 listens to appreciate them, but now I can't stop listening to them!
This song, Fools In Love, I think may be one of her most well known songs (I think, I could easily be wrong). I love to sing along to it.

New CDs

So I just bought the Kooks CD, and I was slightly disappointed. I was very excited to get the cd, and it is pretty good, but there's a catch.

Unfortunately, it seems as though a couple of the songs i had downloaded before I bought the cd were acoustic or live or just not the version on the actual disc. And, sadly, I don't like the actual CD versions of the songs I knew as much as the downloaded versions. I think that's a little sad.

The good news is that I bought the Mark Ronson CD 'Version' and it is excellent. fabulous. fantastic. I hadn't even heard of this guy til about 3 weeks ago. But anyway, his cd is amazing and I love it. Everyone should get it.

My love for Citizen

When I went to Sasquatch, the music festival in the gorge in WA, I went part for a goodbye to some friends going to college, part for music, and part for experience.
Sometimes I would just stay at the main stage if I didn't know the small stage names. I knew Citizen Cope's name, I think I might have heard a track or two before Sasquatch, but I'm not sure. When he played though, oh my gosh I love it. It was the right music at the right time kind of experience. When his performance was over, there was a guy handing something out by the gate to the standing section. He looked extremely bored and hot. But I took whatever he was giving away, and I am so glad I did.
It was Citizen Cope's newest CD, but totally raw. It wasn't the CD that's being sold everywhere. It's in a cardboard envelope with his signature one it, real signature not printed, and with a stamp of the face that's on the real album's cover. That's all there was. But on the the actual disc, it just said Every Waking Moment, Citizen Cope. and it's the entire album. oh my gosh I was so excited!
Now I love Citizen Cope, and though this song is not from Every Waking Moment, it is still a marvelous song.

So glad i finally found it. Definitely my fav Sage Francis song out of what I've heard
