MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Album:
Track: I'm A Lady - (featuring Trouble Andrew)
(112)

Latest obsession: Santogold

While she is most frequently compared to the musical style of M.I.A., her own music is all over the map, which makes her much more accessible to the general audiences. In Santogold's music I can hear inflections of Pixies, Breeders, YYY's, Tegan & Sarah, and even some Joy Division (the male voice (Trouble Andrew) in the background of "I'm A Lady") And there is nothing more admirable than an artist who refuses to limit herself to a single genre.

Here is the official video for her song, "L.E.S. Artistes" (my personal favorite off her self-titled album) Warning: Contains artistic violence. May not be suitable for younger audiences.

Santogold, a.k.a. Santi White

Santogold & MIA...these ladies kick ass!!!

I've heard of her only as a by-word from ultra-cool kids of whom I didn't think much. Thanks to your glib trick, I know what the fuss is about now. I think I'm hooked.

With this post, you're officially my EMCD or as I've recently learnt, Evil Music Crack Dealer. Cheers ;)

oh weird - i hadn't noticed "I'm A Lady" here too. Says it features Trouble Andrew - he also does music with 77Klash in Brooklyn as well as his own music. And, on top of all that, he's a pro snowboarder! some guys have it all...

Like Bartleby, I've known the name but not the sound. You've hooked me as well - damn EMCD! The first one's always free, isn't it?

What happened in Britain about 20 years ago that all these talented women are dropping great sounds at the same time? A rift (or riff) in the time-space continuum?

I'm pumped for her album now that I've heard this song. And I didn't know she and M.I.A. were homegirls. Dig it!

Jonh - Santogold is from Brooklyn i believe. but i agree - the UK has bred a bounty of amazing divas lately! personally, i'm not that into Santi (despite reporting on her religiously this year). i'm really into the music, produced by Diplo and Switch (the masterminds behind M.I.A.'s albums) but so much her take on it. For those of you who are into Santogold - be sure to check out the previous posts on her MOG page: http://mog.com/music/Santogold There's some free mp3s and stuff in there (assuming the link hosts are still offering)

Been onto Santogold for a bit - since mollifire dropped a little science. Glad the word is getting out. Et lilja88, moi aussi...
