Music Criticism: The Witty Put Down

Posted over 3 years ago

I really enjoy music criticism, even more when the critique is short and witty. I must admit that the wit is most often used to dis an album or artist.

From the Hour (22-28 Jan 09), here's an example taken from Dave Jaffer's remarks about The All-American-Rejects' album When the World Comes Down:

"I'll grudgingly allow that album opener I Wanna is infectious like chicken pox, although just as scarring".

Feel free to contribute your favorite(s).

    Regarding Kevin Federline's album....
    Billboard, 30 out of 100
"In general, Federline enunciates well". It always makes me laugh :D
Excellent topic, Rejean. I'll try to come up with more, I'm sure there are many gems!

Here's another one by Erik Leijon (Mirror, Jan.29-Feb.4, 2009) about Hook Me Up by The Veronicas:

"the Veronicas' painfully deliberate sophomore record is as processed as a rubbery Kraft Single dipped in Cheez Whiz."

    Ouch!

    More!

Dave Jaffer (Hour, Feb.5-11, 2009), dissing Sing It Loud's Come Around:

" I listened to Come Around for about 12 minutes before my brain stopped.  I thought I was having a stroke, but no, the first four or five songs just sound that much alike. [...] The last time I enjoyed 36 minutes less than this, someone was breaking up with me."

    Harsh.
