MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Album: Hvarf/Heim
Track: Staralfúr [Live Acoustic]
(58)

According to the band's website, this friday (7th of march), Sigur Rós will occupy the whole front page of youtube.com

And, lucky for those who have yet to see it, the main feature of the homepage will be the entire Heima music documentary. As if that wasn't enough, the top ten entries to the 'Minn Heima' competition will be featured too along with a message from the band themselves.

Can't wait to see this, hopefully it'll introduce one of the best and most original bands of our generation to a lot of new people. And if nothing else, people will get to see this very very beautiful video, which can lift your spirits no matter how bad a day you've had.

If you haven't yet seen Heima... I demand that you give it a watch on friday!

shoot i literally just saw that bulletin posted on my myspace... and im listening to 'Ny Batteri' right now haha. this might be interesting. a LOT of people are going to see this, and in turn discover them. this could really blow them up, im not sure for better or worse. its just 95% of the people i talk to dont know who sigur are. its like the only people that listen to their music are the people that understand them. it weeds out all the critics that refuse to listen to something different. and its kinda nice that they are big, but not too big you know what i mean? well, we shall, as they say, see.

we shall, indeed, as they say, see :)

you're right sam, when you meet someone who knows and likes sigur ros, you can almost pigeonhole them. they're definitely not everyone's cup of tea, i think it takes a certain character to appreciate them.

i don't know if this youtube thing will really blow them up, though it'll definitely increase their fanbase a fair bit. i like the way it is at the moment, they're big and they do world tours and sell a shitload of records, but at the same time it seems like most of the people you meet don't know them.

have you heard Von? because it's the one album of theirs I haven't heard and don't really know much about it.

It's good that Sigur Rós is finally going to get the exposure they deserve. I was just talking to my coworkers yesterday about how songs in any language besides English seldom get any airtime in North America and Sigur Rós is a prime example.

Yeah, it's pretty much the same here in the UK. I've heard sigur ros on the radio once, years ago.

It's so refreshing to go to countries like France or Italy and hear such a wealth of diverse music on the radio there (most stations), in many different languages.

yeah, von was their first album that virtually went unnoticed when released. they sounded way different back then, probably because they were so young. well not WAY different, but its more experimental and weird. i would recommend only for the most hardcore of fans. also theyve changed a lot of the songs since then. like 'von' on hvarf-heim, which i absolutely love, is played very differently than the original (which is also good). 'hun jord' is good, and 'myrkur' is very similar to that of an old U2 track. oh and 'syndir guds' is pretty haunting. it starts out sounding a lot like 'olsen olsen' but then this guy starts screaming in the background and then you just hear a bunch of whispering. kinda spooky. simply put, von is what it would sound like if you were floating in space alone, hovering over earth with nobody to save you. again its not for everyone, even fans.
