WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

What do you listen to on the plane?

Posted about 1 year ago

I'm going to Nice, France tomorrow (with YellowBird) and being on a plane is one of my favourite places to listen to music, especially during take-off. Thankfully I can hide the earphones with my hair so the air stewards don't see and make me turn it off :)

We usually listen to the same album on our own ipods when we fly, sorta synchronised, and we usually choose a new release which we haven't heard yet, but we can't decide which album to pick this time. The flight is only 3.5 hours or so.

Any suggestions? We're open to anything! It's annoying that the new Conor Oberst and the new Faint albums are released after we get back. Please help!

It's a little dry out there now in new release world, but the Fleet Foxes disc is pretty good.  Sometimes, I'll stock up on podcasts (for the inner geek in me).  For music, WNYC's Soundcheck is pretty good.  NPR's All Songs Considered is good for music fans.  Also, NPR's Fresh Air has some good pieces - they'll sometimes feature a new album but usually it's a piece on politics or entertainment.  Enjoy your trip!

I was gonna say Fleet Foxes!  The Black Keys Attack & Release is fairly new.  I only just caught onto a few weeks ago and it's really good, has been compared to a White Stripes sound.

hmm as much as i love fleet foxes, i wore that album out a few months ago. haven't listened to the black keys although i'm not a big fan of the white stripes. jefferson airplane are a band i've been meaning to look into for a while so i might do that.

    thanks for the suggestions!

i dont really listen to full albums as i do long playlists. mostly ambient stuff. but paul oakenfold's 'traveling' (disc 2) is one album that hit every long bus ride with me in high school. or paul van dyke's 'out there and back' (disc 1). then again, you can never go wrong with some icelandic flare ;P

I guess this kind of goes along the same lines but I was in the car for like 7 hours yesterday, and I got sick of dipping into other people lanes while I looked at my ipod for the next artist to play. That's when the shuffle feature entered my life.

There was a lot of Wilco, Belle and Sebastian, David Bowie, and George Harrison

lol sam, can't say i ever really listened to oakenfold or paul van dyke, they have too much of a stigma over here, the sorts of people who listen to them... but i'm gonna trust you on that one and check it out! as for the icelanders, valgeir sigurdsson is a contender, dare i say i need a break from sigur lol.

pinkerton, belle and sebastian are great, i can imagine them being good plane music. and yeah, if all else fails and you just can't pick anything, shuffle is a fantastic thing.

Just to be fair to the guys...I probably should have elaborated

The White Stripes sound comes through on only a couple tunes and possibly being pigeonholed because it's a 2 member thing ...Black Keys are really more down to earth with more blues empahsis than head thumping rock, greater talent flowing through the drumsticks and vocals as well.   Have a safe trip, hope you found the right music for your flight!
