I just discovered The Real Tuesday Weld today, thanks to a friend linking me to one of their songs on youtube. I've fallen in love with Stephen Coates's strange yet beautiful genre (which I can't even begin to pigeonhole). Each song is so different to the next and they're all so different to most anything I've heard before. Apparently he defines his music as 'antique beat'. To me it sounds like a combination of lounge/electronica/experimental/jazz/pop with some 50s-60s influences but I can't get my head around a solid description. Which is probably a good thing, and definitely refreshing. Some of his songs are complete feel-good, up-beat whimsical tracks, while others are mellow, heartfelt and tragic. If any of you have any suggestions as to what you would call the genre, I'd love to hear.The music is just so refreshing and uplifting. One of those true gem finds that brightens your day and becomes an instant favourite. For me, at least.I definitely recommend checking it out if you haven't heard his stuff yet.I'm amazed music this good hasn't come under my radar until now, and so glad it has.

Sam The Artist says ya hes goooda. 'la bete et la belle', 'last words' and 'turn on the sun again' are all very good to me. honestly, i agree with whomever coined it antique beat. its the perfect word to describe them, and i would have never thought of it. its like warm, sometimes dark, dusty, old timey, electro lounge. its definitely different in a good way.

Samuel says Thanks for bringing this to the mog-o-sphere! I just purchased the three available albums off of iTunes and am loving it. This is by far the most interesting music I have come across in quite sometime. It's a refreshing change from everything else out there.

laura27 says Glad you're loving it Samuel :D nothing i love more than sharing good music. You're right, it is so interesting and intriguing and i think that's why it appeals so much. Definitely a relief from all the other similar-sounding artists out there at the minute. Which album do you like the most? I can't quite decide.
