New Bright Eyes Side-Project?(!)

Posted about 1 year ago
So I was reading an entry on wikipedia (that ever-reliable source) about M. Ward and came across this snippet of gossip which caused me to splurge my coffee at the computer screen (metaphorically) in shock...

"According to the Omaha City Weekly: ...Also with recording plans for the winter is Conor Oberst. Beginning in the new year, Oberst is slated to begin recording two new albums — one a solo record in Mexico (?) with Jake Bellows playing a role and another with a new band being formed with M Ward"

Has anybody else heard this? Or know anything more of it? I know Conor and M. Ward have collaborated a lot in the past, but a joint project may just send me to new realms of ecstasy. And a solo album too?

I hope this is more than just a rumour. I definitely wasn't expecting any new Conor material so soon after Cassadaga. Although, come to think of it, that was almost a year ago wasn't it? How time flies eh?

So... any thoughts?

  1. summer eyes says he played at least one new song as "bright eyes" when i saw him in charleston, but i think it could have been two because there was another one i wasnt familiar with and couldnt find lyrics for. its more than likely he has been/will be cooking up something new, conor usually doesnt make us wait very long for new material ;]

  2. laura27 says i thought he'd still be touring cassadaga. i hope this new material gets recorded and released sooner rather than later cos i'm on the edge of my seat lol. i found a downloadable recording of a very recent live show "here":http://pop-apocalypse.blogspot.com/2008/01/conor-oberst-live-in-minnesota-123007.html with loads of new songs and a new line-up so it'll be interesting to see what becomes of that.

  3. summer eyes says sweet, im going to download that. yeah, when i saw him in november he only played 2 songs off of cassadega. he played many off of lifted and i'm wide awake its morning, but mainly stuck with older stuff, a good mix of popular favorites and random selections. at any rate, new material from him is always exciting.
