... All my dreams came true.

How? You ask? Well.. not only did I get to meet, and greet, my all-time favourite band: Third Eye Blind... but I was handed a backstage, afterparty, all access pass in the MIDDLE of the concert.. which ultimately led to a night of life long memories on a tour bus at Babson College.

I had already attended their 10th anniversary shows in San Francisco, and was not one of the lucky MANY to attend their afterparty-- but I was thoroughly satisfied. A rockin, kick ass concert, new songs, a preview of the new album. Two nights of a fucking good ol' time. No meeting, no signed memorabilia.. but great music.

There I was, a dedicated fan on a commuter rail bus going to the suburbs of Western Mass. to see the again. This time: a small college concert, in a small gym-sized venue. The set was going well.. I was up front, unlike at the Fillmore, which was nice. Not as many new songs were played, but it was a nice long set with the acoustic couch session, and solos by Tony(on guitar) and Brad (on drums). Again, loving every minute of it, and happy to be yelling the words to every single song at the top of my lungs.

Suddenly, theres this guy standing on teh other side of the gate, looking at me.. I had brought a camera when they were strictly prohibited so I was expecting him to bust me. He just continued to stare and eventually walked away. I hadn't noticed him amongs the other security personnel, but I shrugged him off once he left.

A minute or two later, the same guy is back, standing right in front of me.. and he begins to approach me. I'm slightly stunned and definitely shocked when he hands me a fabric sticker that says "THIRD EYE BLIND April 21 2007" and on the back: Access Pass. He hands one to my best friend standing and singing right along with me.. and we freak out. What is this? Is this a Backstage pass?? Is this a sticker?? A simple little giveaway that he only happened to give to two girls, and no one else. It had to be more. The people around us were staring at us like we struck gold, and then rubies, and emeralds.

The rest of the concert rocked, and I held onto that little piece of fabric like it was my life. Stephen Jenkins definitely looked at us several times and so did the bass player, Leo, who I met at SF.

After the show, we approached some Babson College students to inquire about the passes. They knew nothing. They tried telling us that the guys were probably already on their tour bus, and likely gone. We decided to stick around and take our chances.

Soon, about 20 more girls were lined up behind us, with the same passes, and I started to get doubtful. The group of girls were led backsatge and asked to wait. We watched the crew dismantle the set which was interesting.. and couple girls started to leave. They had us held up in a hallway while the venue cleared out, and people were getting impatient. All the while, we still were not sure what these passes meant.

Then, the guy who gave me the passes showed up and we introduced ourselves. I asked if he remembered me, and he said "I just handed you that pass, of course I remember you." :)!

We talked to this guy, Bobby, and it turned out he is their stage manager. He said the passes were for us to meet the guys. Soon, he gathered us, and we headed out to their TOUR BUS. He told us that the crowd already waiting their were just fans getting autographs, and that we were to wait by the bus.

Ultimately, the guys came up to all of us and met us, outside the bus.. and they met all the other girls too. We made friends with Bobby at this point and asked him what was really going on. Bobby says "I think they're making their final decisions." Turns out, the guys were picking chicks to come onto the bus with them for a little afterparty.

Me and my friend were the first girls on.

I spent the next 2-3 hours getting to know the most amazing musicians of my day.. I couldnt believe any of it was happening, and when I woke up the next morning, I was surprised that it was no dream. Reality: I made friends with the band I love, who make the music I love. I made lifetime memories that I will think about every second for the next month.

This definitely won''t be the last time I get to chill with those fellas, which made this night so untouchable. I thought it would be a one-time sort of thing, but we were invited to come back to all the shows, anytime. True fans. True, true, dedicated fans.

Ohhhh the stories.. the memories.. the secrets of that pimpin tour bus.

Nothing is impossible.

What else is there to do on a rainy/icy Thursday afternoon, just after you've found out you've failed another chem test, and you've forgotten to get a guest pass for your friend this weekend, and you've realized your life is a sad sad mess?

Nothing.... except wallow in your depression, throw a heavy drink together, and let the music bleed for you.

Beverage: Vodka(again, high tide) + pomegranite cranberry juice + orange juice = :)

Music: :( mix

Usually, I would never recommend Dashboard Confessional, unless you're in a very emotional, heart on the table kind of mood, and that mood I am in. So for those "emo" states, lets admit, DC is not the worst of music. Cheesy, overrated, yes, but at least we're not listening to Yellowcard? Agreed?

If you're looking for a slightly more respectable still emotional, and alternative music experience my pic of this post will have to be Death Cab for Cutie, and secretly the Phatom of the Opera, if any of you caught the title reference.

Ben Gibbard has a talent, lyrically, to sing about abstract images relating to his personal life, but somehow we can all empathize. The mood created by the whirring sounds and pleasant melodies of power chords can be just the right concotion for the gloomiest of days.

Plans was disappointing, I felt that more of the songs on Transatlanticism were likable and better produced. Although, Plans definitely has a different message/feel to it. Perhaps my rainy day, solemn mood is assimilating with the slow guitar riffs and soft spoken verses. None the less, a great dark day album.

Here's a snipet:

Recently I had the priveledge of seeing an amazing rock concert in San Francisco. The ultra-nineties pop rock band, Third Eye Blind, was playing a 10 year anniversary concert in one of the best venues on this planet. The Fillmore.

What makes The Fillmore so amazing? 1) The crowd caps at about 1,250. 2) It is located in the LOUD. 4) Every rock band and hip hop group worth mentioning has played at this place. I'm talking the greats like Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan all down to our generation's Blackaliscious. 5) They make original, unique, psychadelic concert posters that they give to everyone at the show for free. (It's what they're known for-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fillmore)

Anyways, back to the music. Not only is 3eb extremely underrated, who knew they'd be fucking rockstars at their live shows? And after 10 years of realeasing their first album? Most of the world has only heard their overplayed pop radio songs like Semi-Charmed Life, How's It Going to Be, Losing a Whole Year, etc. But I challeneg you, music seeker, to look into their other songs. Basically every song on their self titled debut album is a winner, and as a fan I'm biased to say that so is every other song they've produced. All bets aside, there are jems, jems that are valued for their harmonies, bass and guitar work, and definitely lyrical and emotion genius (or insanity).

Stephen Jenkins, the lead singer, has poured his dark blood into their 3 albums, and if a band could play the soundtrack to my life, it'd be 3eb. I guarantee you, you can find a lyrical verse noteworthy of its honesty and pure poetic brilliance.

Try listening to the music alone as well. These guys know how to play their instruments, its no glued together boy band facade. These guys are real.

So I leave you with a tid bit, a rare acoustic song with lyrics that are considered some of Jenkins' most controversial.

Enjoy!

Third Eye Blind was pretty much the first true rock concert I went to, back on the self titled tour. There is so much on that album (and since), it has always stuck with me.

Random anecdote - when I saw 3eb on that tour, they opened with Losing a Whole Year and followed it with Narcolepsy. I was about to walk out if they followed with Semi-Charmed Life. Thankfully, they did not and it was an awesome show.

Welcome to the madness that is MOG.
