WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Joy Division

Posted about 1 year ago
I found out about this band, Joy Division, from my mother who found out about them because she is a huge fan of The Killers. The Killers recently covered a song called Shadowplay by this English band, Joy Division. A few days ago my mom got a hold of the new independent film, Control. It is about Ian Curtis, lead singer, and his struggle in life.Since watching that film I have been in love with their music. I can really feel the energy in it. Its, well I cannot really explain it.I love their sound. It really touches me and makes me think. The movie Control is defiantly worth seeing. It has a lot of great music, like Sex Pistols, The Buzzcocks, The Killers, Iggy Pop, ect.I don't know. Just check out the band, watch the movie. Have fun.

  2. wdog says Sorry.. no disrespect for your mom, but one of my life's missions is to try and steer impressionable minds away from the swill of Joy Division and the suggestion that Ian Curtis is some sort of tragic hero.. ..dying is easy, living is hard. I'll take the Killers any day before JD :)

  4. SA says I envy you for just having had the thrill of hearing Joy Division for the first time. A magical moment. ;) I think the movie is great, and the music is astonishing. Furthermore, I would like to add that I think the film does a great job of showing how great a musician Curtis is, but also how flawed and troubled he was as a human being (the anxiety and angst which you can also hear in the music). Corbijn did a good job not glorifying Curtis' life or, worse, glorifying suicide. Moreover, I think listening to JD's music doesn't send the message of giving in to suicide, but instead strengthens you to get through whatever you are going through. btw, if you enjoy JD, I don't know if you have already, but check out the current post-punk revival bands like Editors and Interpol, who were JD inspired. :)

  5. Jules09 says Joy Division is great, but like SA said, check out Interpol. I'd take them over Joy Division any day.

You know nothing about Curtis, or how hard his life (illness) was, or why he chose he end it. He did however leave a massive lasting legacy, not just on the city of his birth, but worldwide generation after generation! Something "The Killers" could only dream of, playing pathetic sub-indie commercial shite! "What You Gonna Do When The Novelty Has Gone?" *(I may stick around if it's any use)
