According to Powderfinger's bio, they are the most successful Australian rock band in the past decade. A big statement indeed, and I still have to admit that I don't have even one of their records. I guess maybe I was just never quite turned on? Just recently, however, a friend of mine (he lived in Australia for a while) turned me on to Bernard Fanning. Maybe it's the more low-key nature of Bernard's solo stuff, or maybe it's just hitting me at the right time, but Tea & Sympathy is definitely worth a listen. His record came out overseas last year and only became available in the states last month. He's got a great voice, intriguing lyrics and the guitar chops to boot. If you're a New Yorker, he's playing the Mercury Lounge tomorrow at 8:30. If you live somewhere else, his tour dates are posted on his site: http://www.bernardfanning.com/content.cfm?tours.cfm. the video is pretty darn kick ass too:subtle and innovative - kinda like that HP ad, I suppose, but works well in the context of the video. I'll be at the NY show tomorrow - maybe I'll see you there;).

You know, I'm almost jealous of NYers on MOG. NY is a much smaller place than CA, and you guys get just as much good music out there as we do here. But it'd be a lot harder to get that many MOGgers in one place out here.
