WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

I like this song and no one else does.

Is it Make Up? The Make Up? MAKE*UP? Fuck if I know and Google is no real help. These things are important to indexing. Southern says Make-Up so we'll go with that. The genre tag continues to baffle me. "They're just like... this band? You know?"The first time I heard of them it was about how much they sucked. That was from Ms. Internet Fling #1-Too-Many. The Philadelphia scenestress I still refuse to think too poorly of. What would it would it say about me if I did? She liked Nation of Ulysses much better and I wrote both band names down on an errant syllabus that was laying next to the computer. I lived one block south of WNUR's broadcast area at the time. Q101 came in clear as a frickin' bell though. The internet wasn't fast enough for streaming. You could register damn near any domain and your intellectual property lawsuit would still be years away. And hell, Nation of Ulysses might have been the better of the two. Who am I to say? Make-up did Watch It With That Thing and that puts them over for me.I must have gotten this at Sidwalk Records in Naperville. Oh how she scoffed once she visited (a week shy of me getting kicked out of school.) She only picked up one CD when we were in the city but she walked out of that place with an armload of vinyl. One of which was Cap'n Jazz, whose availability freaked her out.The bass continues to astound me. Every time I hear it it's that same cherry high sitting on the couch in the post-college flop house, fucked up beyond anyone's belief. That bass line is the cartoon whisp of smoke ending in a delicate hand that tickles my nose. I wish I could find bass tab of this song so I could paint it by numbers."There's no underground railroadand there's nowhere to go anyway"Yeah. I dance like James Brown when I hear this song.
