Prog rock. Some people love it, some people despise it.I love it, but only the sort made by bands which place musical coherence and beauty above pure virtuosity. Two examples: Yes and King Crimson. The bassist for several King Crimson albums was Tony Levin, in the 80's and through the 90's. He's my favorite bass player and has been a session musician for artists such as Peter Gabriel and John Lennon. He's also said to be a really nice guy.I just found out that he'll be touring southern California in the middle of October, in support of a new album called "Resonator". Here are some words from
his web site's store:
Tony Levin's newest release, groundbreaking music, with great musicians in the backup band and guest appearances from Adrian Belew and Steve Lukather. This CD has songs as well as instrumentals, and the lyrics are not just thrown on, they're deep, sometimes humorous, and always surprising.Musicians:Jerry Marotta - drums and vocalsLarry Fast - synthsJesse Gress - guitarPete Levin - organAdrian Belew - guitarSteve Lukather - guitar.I'm really psyched about both the album and the tour.
