Sundays are for Home?

Posted over 2 years ago
Well, this Sunday is all about Home for me, anyways. Jump on board if you care to. From a thread started by colizzle earlier today... I like this song – it does a pretty good job of capturing that prairie angst of isolation, boredom, loneliness, etc. Plus it tells the story of David Milgaard, a case study in wrongful conviction and one of the reasons why we don’t have the death penalty in Canada. Ya know, other than it being cruel and unusual punishment. To think a song about that gets whole crowds of Canadians singing along is, well, a very good thing, I think.

  3. kristiana says Haha, maybe I just pretend to be cool, Ray! Unlike you, the real deal! ;) My man took that picture yesterday - he heard me play the same song over and over for a good chunk of the afternoon. The mog distortion makes it look like I have a big scowl on my face or something. Deadman walking...you're welcome.

  4. RGM says Well I wouldn't cast any judgements on me yet, haven't gig in a few years...heard that that one old tape of your bands rehearsal. Sounded pretty cool...can't wait to hear some of your stuff...as for me. At the tail end of this nasty cold\flu whatever it wants to be...now gotta wipe the HD on my computer...new to grab a Dell just for grahics\artwork and recording and no internet for that one...stinking spyware seems worse than viruses now a days...

  8. kristiana says Ah man, it's very true - Canadians love their "Hip". They also really do love this song in particular. I don't even like the Hip that much, but I do like this one. And the typical "Can Con" of their lyrics, as discussed on colizzle's post. sundown in the paris of the prairies wheat kings have all their treasures buried and all you hear are the rusty breezes pushing around the weather-vane jesus in his zippo lighter, he sees the killer's face maybe it's someone standing in a killer's place. twenty years for nothing, well that's nothing new, besides, no one's interested in something you didn't do. wheat kings and pretty things, let's just see what the morning brings there's a dream where the high school is dead and stark, it's a museum and we're all locked up in it after dark. where the walls are lined all yellow, grey and sinister hung with pictures of our parents' prime ministers. wheat kings and pretty things, wait and see what tomorrow brings late-breaking story on the cbc, a nation whispers, "we always knew that he'd go free" they add, "you can't be fond of living in the past, cause if you are then there's no way that you're gonna last". wheat kings and pretty things let's just see what tomorrow brings wheat kings and pretty things, that's what tomorrow brings

  9. mktackabery says the imagery there is powerful, powerful stuff. I just finished reading Coupland's Hey Nostradamus, which might be why this is striking me as so particularly poignant right now, but, well. wow.
