Yeah, you really want her.

At one fell swoop - in tribute to Anna Nicole Smith, Crash's post about Courtney, and Mark Mordue's post - how we love to watch people fail. Some day you might ache like she aches. Then talk to me about trying to overcome drug addiction, losing your partner and father of your baby to suicide, and being blamed for his death to boot, and all in the public eye.

  3. Spike says Good melody, good arrangement. The sound of the late sixties lives on. Thank you for letting us (me for the first time) hear her and her band.

  6. Me and the Horse I Rode In On says I liked her in Man On The Moon. We look at the fucked up people and somehow wish we were just like them.....pain included.

  7. kristiana says ...Or wish we could give them a hug, and give the finger to all the sanctimonious pricks. It seems there is an even more insatiable appetite to see powerful women become weak.

  8. Jonh Ingham says Do we love to watch people fail or do we like watching the village idiot being, well, an idiot?

  9. kristiana says Both, naturally. But yes, a large number of people do love to watch people fail. It's like the difference between malicious gossip and, uh, not-so-malicious gossip? In my experience, people also love the good&evil dichotomy. I realize it's very human to judge others harshly, when if it was ourselves in the same situation we would make allowances for our behavior. It's an easy trap to fall into. Did you check out Mark's post? I thought it was really well written.

  12. extraordinarypoems says One of the most poignant interviews with Courtney that I saw was one in which she said something along the lines of, "You know, we didn't just party all the time. We had normal lives, like you. We had to take out the garbage, eat dinner, etc. It made me remember these were human beings who loved each other and tried to make it, like many of us do.

  14. Lord Helmet says I'm proud of Ms. Love. Recently watched a documentary about her life to-date and it was pretty inspiring. She shared a lot... It seems to me that some people in this world are, for whatever reasons (out of their control), just prone to misfortune. She falls into that category I'd say. And I always love to see those people persevere through the storms; especially in spite of all those nay-sayers cheering against them and waiting with morbid curiosity for their demise.
