So last Fall I wrote a letter to Mr Cohen. I don't do such things. I carried it around for a few months, then recently discarded it.
So he announces a world tour, the first in 15 years, and where does it begin? In the Maritimes! More specifically, it starts in a small venue in MY hometown, the day after my birthday, which also happens to be Mothers Day.
I got my ticket yesterday, I'm in "the Golden Circle" 5 rows back.
So thank you Brother Cohen, my Rabbi and High Priest, for taking the time to answer an unsent letter.
As usual, you work magic.
I know it's already been posted, but heck, here's the induction. Pure gold.
I said to Hank Williams: how lonely does it get?
Hank Williams hasn't answered yet
But I hear him coughing all night long
A hundred floors above me
In the tower of song.

We already have so many reasons to envy you - do you really have to give us one more?
Seriously, have a terrific time. That sounds like heaven.....
Can you believe my luck?
The gods smile on me, Bill. I know, I didn't wanna brag, just share the joy! I waited in a line-up for several hours yesterday morning, praying there would be seats left in that "golden circle".
Needless to say, I rewrote my letter yesterday. Maybe I'll just discard it again and see what happens. :)
I'm sure you remember my little epiphany over Cohen last Fall...
oh yeah - and I'm about to walk through blizzard-like conditions to the store. Still envy me? :)
Cheers and congrats for the Golden Ticket!
I love it...yesterday I made 2 comments about Cohen and followed up on one today with more Cohen talk on a post and also then separate conversation sparked from that regarding the different cover versions of "Hallelujah". And...I also read about your coincidences on ilay's f u mortality post a while back, so...it's very nice to see your Cohen love, esp. at this particular moment! ; )
You had an epiphany over Cohen? I think, I missed something, while not having been around.
I only listened to a few songs of him, but I guess, you listened to a few songs more ;).
So, congratualations and enjoy your evening with that living legend.
Hermes, he's been with me a long time. And yet he can - or I can - still surprise myself. It happened thanks to this song...
and bridges.
Thanks Sunshine! ;) Hopefully the chain of coincidences is not yet finished.
That brings back memories! I used to listen to him all the time.
I really loved "The Future" (1992) - must listen to that again.

Thanks for the flashback!
Check out "Closing Time", which I think is from the same album (The Future)?
You can see how his music progressed from his early "Suzanne (Takes You Down) and others. Great stuff.
I saw Cohen on his most recent tour. It was Father's Day, 1993. When he played "First We Take Manhattan" the line "Now it's Father's Day and everybody's wounded" got the cheer you'd expect.
A thrilling night. I happened to be standing in the lobby of the venue as Cohen and Rebecca De Mornay left for dinner, post-soundcheck. Some little kid gave him a tiny sheet of paper - a temporary tattoo. Cohen dug in his pocket for a gift to give in return. I'll have to ask my companion what he came up with. I was a little overwhelmed, standing less than a foot from the man, tiny himself, his immaculate haircut right under my nose.
