Ritual Musik

Artist:
Whether you call it tribal industrial or ritual musik (or something else), if you're a fan of this genre then you need to know about This Morn' Omina. I recently downloaded their 2006 album Les Passages Jumeaux, which far exceeds their previous efforts. This Morn' Omina's signature sound of organic drums with throbbing electronics has earned them a spot at the top of the ritual musik mountain. Check out the video below from their previous album, The Drake Equation:In Les Passages Jumeaux, TMO has moved away from the consistently hard-hitting beats that have become their trademark, and incorporated more variety in their songwriting. The songs also now feature the occasional distorted vocal, although you'll have to wait until I complete my "Learn Belgian in 7 Days!!" course before I can comment on the lyrical material. The foundation of each song is, as in the past, the rhythmically complex and beautifully organic beat. I don't know what equipment TMO uses, so I can't say whether they really are banging tomtoms with gourds, or whether they just coaxed their Korgs into sounding that way. It doesn't matter. Each sound now builds on that insistent beat with complex and intriguing melodic passages. Previous albums relied on sheer sonic intensity to build interest, but Les Passages Jumeaux is an example of how great ritual musik can be when it stops trying to be the LOUDEST GODDAMNED MUSIC you've ever heard and instead focuses on songwring.A+: recommended for fans of Juno Reactor, ant-zen records.
