Into Action

Tim Armstrong, of Rancid, has a new album out of solo work and this video for his new single kicks all sorts of ass. Reminds me of the brief period in the 90's when I got hip deep into the Ska revival. I was dating some little punk rock chick with violet hair who's best friend was a reformed skinhead who just got out of jail for clubbing someone with a tire iron. I remember she smoked constantly and refused to have sex with me. On a positive note I got to see some really cool Ska shows at the 9:30 club back home in D.C. I also learned how to skank. Later on in life I developed a bad habit re: skanking but that my friends is an entirely different story. Without further adieu Mr. Tim Armstrong and the girl in the miniskirt named Suzanne:

One More Song By Mr. Reid

Here is more of that badass vocalizing I talked about in my earlier post. Fun fact, Reid was first approached to be the lead vocalist for a little band called Led Zepplin.

Terry Reid is the most underappreciated musician in the history of the world. (And that is not an overstatement).

Of course it is an overstatement because how would I possibly be able to quantify such a grandiose judgment. However, he is extremely bitchin and a critical as opposed to a popular darling. The most incredible thing about Terry Reid is his voice. Every rock vocalist out there pales in comparison. For some reason this brings to mind American Idol and all those wannabees. The thing is that no rock vocalist will ever win that show because the mainstream public does not consider rock a real showcase for vocal talent. Terry Reid would win American Idol unopposed because all the children on that show would simply cry and then quit. Terry Reid would then piss on the stage and refuse to honor his contractual obligations. (I have no idea if Reid ever had a rock persona or if he was just a humble artist.) A huge uproar would result in the media and eventually it would turn up that Terry Reid had violent sex with Paula Abdul in a public restroom before ninja kicking Simon Cowell in the testes. Anyway, that is a huge flight of fancy for me. I do not even know if Terry Reid is alive, and if he was,if he is skilled in the combat arts. Enjoy the music.

Province

I thought it would be interesting to show you what I think is the best music video I have seen in a long time. The song is "Province" by TV on the Radio. I do not have much of a comment on this except to say that this video is very artful and that the visuals nicely compliment the feeling of the song. Enjoy.

I decided to post a new playlist for that I thought some of you might like. The name is in reference to an old South Park episode and is partly inspired by the movie Grindhouse. By the way Tarantino's part of the film,"Death Proof", is great and if I went on about it I might come off like some silly school girl. Anyway he is great. This playlist should sound sort of jangly for what ever that's worth. I wanted some obscure stuff and some stuff that everyone loves.

And in order:

See Stranger Than Fiction

As some of you, actually 4 people I think, may or may not know I am a huge film nut. I just rented the movie Stranger Than Fiction this weekend. It is now my pick for the best film of last year. Will Ferrel is excellent in it, sweet, funny, and a little sad. If you are looking for an affecting and thoughtful movie I strongly suggest giving this one a try. The song Whole Wide World by Wreckless Eric is featured in the film and has been playing on my nano nonstop since.

Favorites

Since I am having some trouble personalizing this MuthaFucka I am going to just post some of my favorites of all time here.

1) favorite poem:

The Waking

I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I have to go.

We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Of those so close beside me, which are you?
God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.

Light takes the Tree; but who can tell us how?
The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair;
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Great Nature has another thing to do
To you and me, so take the lively air,
And, lovely, learn by going where to go.

This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go

by Theodore Roethke

Runner up:

Gift
is nearer to peace than poems
but if for my gift
I brought you silence
(for I know silence)
you would say
"This is not silence
this is another poem"
and you would hand it back to me.

-- Leonard Cohen

2) Favorite Artist: Elvis Costello

Runner Up: Weezer

3) Favorite Movie: It's A Wonderful Life

I'm not gay honest. This is just a great movie that hits every note perfectly. James Stewart is one of the finest actors of all time and the movie makes me want to cry every time I see it. Really, not gay.

Runner Up: Aliens

4) Comic Book Hero: Spiderman

I loved before the fucking movies. Something about a hero with angst really kicks me in the crotch you know.

Runner Up: Wolverine

5) Favorite Television Show: The Wire

Runner Up: 24

6) Favorite Song: "Allison" by Elvis Costello.

Runner Up: "El Scorcho" by Weezer

7) Favorite Food: Hamburger.

blue cheese, bacon, and onions please.

Runner Up: Pecan Pie

8) Favorite Book: The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger.

Runner Up: On the Road, by Jack Kerouac

9) Favorite Drink: The Dirty Martini

Runner Up: Gin and Tonic

10) Favorite Saying: "Res Judicata bitches!"

Basically I am a huge dork.

My first time and it didnt even hurt.

Hey all, this is my first time posting and I have very little to say. I just got married in St. Thomas over my Christmas Break. Im a third year law student who hopes to be a Deputy District Attorney very soon. I had my car broken into and my stereo stolen recently so thats priority one for my next purchase. I love Snowboarding, lifting weights to New Age Music and long walks through garbage dumps at sunset. Most of that isnt true. Most of all I joined MOG so that I could connect with others who share my love of music; something that is real hard to do here in Denver and seeing as how I'm almost 33 and balding. Love you all even if I dont know you yet.

Peace Out Bitches,

The King of Saturated Fats
(Im really not all that fat. Promise.)
