Darren Schlappich is the front man and primary singer and songwriter of the Pennsylvania group Frog Holler. These guys deviate a lot from the type of music I usually listen to, but the songwriting is so great it's hard to not like them. Initially a bluegrass trio, they have evolved into a 6 piece band, playing what some would call alt-country, but is actually much more than that. In concert, these guys are still playing for over 2 1/2 hours for under 10 dollars, a better entertainment value to be found nowhere. When they're wielding their five stringed instruments at you under full power, it's a truyly joyful noise. Electric guitar, bass, pedal steel guitar, mandolin, electric banjo, switching leads and harmony.
