Another day, another grab bag of late night performances... last night's action actually looked pretty good! While Conan and Jimmy Fallon are normally the go-to guys for whatever's hot and new, the coolness crown for October 27th definitely goes to David Letterman, who scored the US TV debut of the wonderful Florence + the Machine. O'Brien's choice wasn't too shabby either, with Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas showing off a funkier-than-usual new single. Jimmy Kimmel had Morningwood on his show last night, and we can't help but giggle at the first half of this sentence.

I really like the Casablancas single, makes me dance like a maniac (no idea about the rest of the album though, haven't heard it yet).
Too bad Florence picked that song to perform, it's one of the weakest ones on the album. Not that she doesn't make it work live, that is ;)
That Morningwood (giggle) video leaves me feeling slightly violated.
I think it has something to do with those (American Apparel?) hot pants...
Anna, I'm a pretty big fan of the Casablancas single as well, but after finally hearing the album this morning the rest of it is nowhere near as good :(
glad to see some of you catching the "late shows" like i do. sometimes, if we're lucky, 4 Tivo's a night's a good thing.
on the other hand, real sad to hear your review of J's album 'cuz i'm rooting for it. although it took some getting used to seeing him move to that music live, the track is a blast even though i can't remember how it goes. it doesn't matter to me on this one, i just have fun hearing it. i guess that would tie into the thread about Prog lyrics.
Anna--i hear you on the Florence track. although they've always been pushing that one, i had hoped to see them do "Dog Days". maybe time restraints for live TV made this easier.
Is Casablanca singing through a vox tuner live? Not familiar with the strokes.. is this his normal thing?
And yeah, bummer about the song choice for Florence... but that song is the ball kicker on the album that stands out by itself... but her voice is limited on that song and it really is nothing more than a background song for a car commercial waiting to happen..
Rabbit Heart would have been a far superior choice.
The third act was like.. Blondie meets Fergie meets Record Exec decided they needed to create a group... and wallah, they pick this chick and give her a backup band and her first 15 songs to sing...
But I do like thick women... so...
I worked live with the Strokes when they were first happening and I definitely used a bunch of compression and distortion to get Julian his "sound". I didn't use any tuners at all. Not sure what he's up to on these dance tracks but it's a different style and sound that he's going for. I dig it.
