Thinking About Past Shows

    Re-Flex & Thompson Twins
I know I should have posted this yesterday, but I am slow (and Mike made me work). As I have said before I've been thinking about putting together a list of shows I remember seeing. So yesterday I was surfing and for some odd reason I found myself ruminating on a show I saw in 1984.The opening band was Re-Flex Here's a live version of Politics of Dancing.I remembered that this was the first band that the Bass player was animated (Tina Weymouth of the Talking Heads did him one better, later)and bouncing around. Every bass player up to that point just stood in the back and did his job. Not this guy. He was balding but had two pony tails down his back that he whipped around. They were enjoying theselves so it was contagious. Anyway, it was 80's goodness. The Headliners were The Thompson Twins. I had missed the first tour through the states and a friend said their show was incredible. That they were great musicians. Well, by the time they came around again the album Into The Gap had come out and it was getting lots of airplay so the concert became more of a show. They danced, traded instruments and engaged with the audience, but it wasn't a concert. It was a preformance. Does that make sense? They were image over substance by then. Now don't get me wrong I had a good time but it was more about them, then the music.Anyway, it was fun and they played a lot from the new album but I liked the earlier stuff. So instead of Love On Your Side, Lies or Hold Me Now, here is Watching.

  1. Marigold says Keith. Man Rogain does wonders. I never knew you were bald with black pony tails and tight pants back in the 80s. Shit, I had no idea you played the bass either. It must be embarrassing to see that first video nowadays. I think my first Reflex was the gag reflex.
