It's been a while MOGgers, but one of my New Year's resolutions is to be a little more prolific on the MOG-o-sphere in 2008. Are you kids still even using that term? My, how MOG has changed in the short few months I've been gone...
Anyway, here's my picks for the top 10 albums of 2007 for you to agree/disagree with at your leisure. Selections were chosen using a secret formula based on an album's "objective goodness," originality, number of times listened to, and...who am I kidding, I just wrote down the first 10 I could remember.
In no particular order:
1. Okkervil River/The Stage Names 2. Menomena/Friend and Foe 3. Band of Horses/Cease to Begin 4. Of Montreal/Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? 5. Tegan & Sara/The Con 6. The National/Boxer 7. Jens Lekman/Night Falls Over Kortedala 8. Stars/In Our Bedroom After the War 9. Iron & Wine/The Shepherd's Dog 10. The Honeydrips/Here Comes the Future
I feel a little conflicted about this list. With one notable exception, there are no surprises here - these are all albums by already-proclaimed favorites of mine. Although I heard plenty of new acts in 2007, none of their albums really spoke to me like these did. Maybe I'm just getting old...
Happy New Year!

A very welcome addition to the 2007 MOG-o-spheric lists. It's nice to see Tegan & Sara on your list.
Thanks for the recommendation and Happy New Year 2008 ;)

Great formula for calculating a top ten :)
I have less than half of those - so can't judge merits - but do give a big vote for Iron & Wine on the top ten.

Thanks, Bartleby. I do have a soft spot for Tegan & Sara (and Chris Walla did some fine producin'). Happy New Year to you, too!

Thanks, debi. I was just being funny. I've actually been stressing about this list for about six weeks. I take these things waay too seriously...

Wow! Cool list of albums. Love Tegan and Sara too!

Having seen Stars and Of Montreal this year and having been fixated on The National album for months, I can only say "Aye!" to those inclusions. Happier New Year!

Thanks, Mike the Knife! Happy New Year to you, too! (And didn't you just love Torq's jacket o' lights that he wears during "The Ghost of Genova Heights?")

That's the stuff that makes a live show ever live-r!

No Avett Brothers - Emotionalism on the top 10? Sure they wear their hearts on their sleeves, but at least they are honest about it.

Avett Brothers were definitely contenders. They made my top 20, if that makes you feel any better :)

A little bit. (What about The Everybodyfields?)
