WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Have Your Cake and Hear It Too

Posted over 2 years ago
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketI like cake. Especially when it is Irish and sings to me (What? Your cake doesn't do this too?). So, it was just a given that I would also like The Cake Sale.Taken from their website, The Cake Sale are.....a band featuring a loose and expansive collective of musicians and writers who have combined to create a nine-song CD of the same name on Oxfam Records. All profits will go to support Oxfam Ireland's Make Trade Fair campaign and their overseas programme work.Songs on the album have been written by Dave Geraghty, Emm Gryner, Paul Noonan, Glen Hansard, Ollie Cole, Damien Rice, Conor Deasy and Matt Lunson. Lead vocalists for the project include Lisa Hannigan, Nina Persson, Gary Lightbody, Gemma Hayes, Glen Hansard, Josh Ritter, Conor Deasy and Neil Hannon. A host of other luminaries fill the roles of musicians.A complete list of (mostly Irish) musicians involved goes a little something like this:Rob Bochnik, Ollie Cole, Brian Crosby, Conor Deasy, Dave Geraghty, Emm Gryner, Lisa Hannigan, Neil Hannon, Glen Hansard, Gemma Hayes, Graham Hopkins, Kevin Horan, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Padraic McMahon, Gary Lightbody, Matt Lunson, Paul Noonan, Nina Persson, Dominic Phillips, Damien Rice, Ken Rice, Josh Ritter, Daniel Ryan, and Nick Seymour.I know. My reaction when I saw that list was to jump up and down, as well. And trust me, all that genius in one place does not disappoint. The track listing is as follows:1. Last Leaf - Lisa Hannigan 2. Vapour Trail - Josh Ritter 3. Black Winged Bird - Nina Persson 4. Some Surprise - Lisa Hannigan and Gary Lightbody 5. All The Way Down - Gemma Hayes 6. Too Many People - Glen Hansard 7. Good Intentions Rust - Conor Deasy 8. Needles - Lisa Hannigan 9. Aliens - Neil HannonBut please do not ask me which ones are my favorite, because I simply cannot choose. All of this cake is delicious (Like chocolate with brown icing, Elle.), goes down easy and leaves you satisfied for hours. I can listen to it, without wanting to skip any song, and sometimes actually repeating a few along the way. Here are two that have been given the continuous loop treatment:Some Surprise - Lisa Hannigan and Gary LightbodyI've heard gossip on the Internets that these two are dating, and that he is the reason she left Damien Rice (Creatively left and not romantically?), or some such other nonsense that I do not care about, because they make beautiful music together. If Gary and Lisa want to also make babies together, they are free to do so and I do not need to know about it. However, if they make more music together, I HAD BETTER KNOW ABOUT IT.In conclusion? Eat Cake!

  5. iseemonsters says Okay, I just got this in the mail and you are right. I love it! My only complaint is that it's too damn short. I need nine more songs, dammit.
