So, maybe it's just that Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year. Maybe it's because I will always have a special place in my heart for campy, gimmicky music. Maybe it's because I just love early rock and roll. It's probably a combination of all these which explains my brand new obsession with this great compilation.
It's music like this that makes me wish I had my own radio show. Why have I never heard this stuff before!? Why don't people play awesome Halloween music during October like they play crappy Christmas music in December?
I mean, okay, they're all basically about one of two things: a. ghoulish party song (like the monster mash)- a bunch of monsters, ghosts, etc. meet in an equally spooky place to have a big rockin' party! b. a monster- usually a teenage version of the good old vampires, werewolves, zombies, and what-have-yous going out on dates and listening to rock and roll
But they're just so much fun! And it's good music!
So, if you want to spend your Halloween twisting the night away, I would definitely check out this compilation.

Track down - if you dare - a song by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross entitled "Halloween Spooks."
If you don't know about the Monks, you really should. They're a rockin group of American GIs who started a band while they were stationed in Berlin. They shaved their heads like monks and made supercool music. The Fall have covered a couple of their songs as well...
Enjoy!

I actually just discovered the band today, while listening to Pitchforkmedia's greatest songs of the 1960s. I can't recall the song, but it definitely stood out.

she helped me out in the same way last week... & tomoz i'm going to see Nina Nastasia in Leeds for a check-up... life is good...
i don't think i've ever seen anyone play the harp like that before. i don't know her stuff, but this made me wanna check it out. thanks (and hope you feel better)
Sorry, but that version is one of the worst of that song, ever. Not to say anything about what an amazing performer she's become since, because she has gotten better. She has become more comfortable with her voice - her inflections, and tones.
I saw her perform Ys, and I ended up absolutely speechless. But her new record, and I mean REKKID, as in vinyl, is fantastic. Get it now.
