Listening to Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' new album "Sinners" and pleased to report that she hasn't mellowed with age. Good, catchy rock with plenty of attitude. Plus, from what I've seen Joan is looking fantastic for her age, which is variously reported as 42, 45 and 47. Apparently they are on tour this summer. Rock on, sister!

I know! She looks like she's 20! I saw her on halloween (got to the venue three hours early and got front and center - woot!), and she is so unbeliably toned all over. No one can pull off a leather outfit like that.

I am completely obsessed with Gram. It all started with the Emmylou Harris-produced tribute CD "Return of the Greivous Angel" (a great place to start -- an accessible place to ease into his style and songwriting) but I quickly moved on to all of his original material. He was a genius songwriter and one of the most emotive singers I have ever heard. But his story was always shrouded in mystery.

Saw this doc about two weeks ago and can't recommend it enough to anyone who is interested in Gram or just the confluence of different American musical influences on some of the best music of the last 30 years and today. It really fills in the personal story of this sad, beautiful man from his childhood through his too short career.

We saw it in a theater here in SF, but it is on Netflix: http://www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?movieid=70050365&trkid=189530&strkid=10602460_5_0
