TV shows can be one of the best ways to discover new artists. In fact, it was The OC that introduced me to the indie scene, and left me searching for more on music blogs, iTunes, myspace, etc. Although the music featured on The CW's new show, Gossip Girl, hasn't intregued me too much, this past episode (Seventeen Candles) featured an artist that caught my ear. The band? The Virgins, an underground band from New York. Five songs by The Virgins were played in this specific episode including "One Week of Danger" which opened the episode. Here is the opening clip, Music director Alexandra Patsavas was also the music director for The OC. This time however, instead of finding local bands from California, she has moved to searching for bands in the show's own location, New York. The Virgin's have a new wave, rock sound that's different from most things I hear these days. Lead-singer Donald's voice is smooth and incredibly unique. I'm sure more note worthy music is going to air on Gossip Girl with Patsavas' fantastic taste. Be sure to check what bands are featured each week online at http://www.cwtv.com/ggmusicThe Virgin's new EP album is available on iTunes.
